Good for Gussie. Wasn’t sure how that round was going to go after her horse spooked so hard come into the ring.
Augusta goes into my standby, but towards the bottom of my top third- I thought she was deep in to 1 and I thought her hard rub and loss of quality at jump 3 was a product of her track rather than a horse who was surprised on takeoff. That was out of keeping with the rest of the course, which was up to her usual standard!
Same, I missed the first half of her round because the stream froze but it looked like her actual round was solid.
Goodness, I want to take Lily Longano’s horse out back and gallop it on the cross country track for 10 minutes, then give it back to her to try again. He is a little feral this morning!
Hoping Augusta can stick in there. One looked deep, three wasn’t stellar and I thought the change and turn after three were a little rough.
Kyla Sullivan came prepared! Very nicely done. I know I’ve said this every time her horse comes into the ring, but he is stinkin’ cute.
I agree - Kyla Sullivan came prepared! What a nice jump on her horse. Well done!
I think some just really appreciate his lack of stiffness, how he works with the horse, not stiffing it off the ground and in the air. I agree about his position, but I think the way in which he creates a humane picture wins out for a good number of folks.
Why the obsession with geography. At least we avoided an issue with Calabasas this time.
There was another turn to a jump set across the ring where Augusta bulged out. How much all this gets penalized may depend on where the judge is sitting.
Because he goes in and nails it, and if he creates the track and influences his horse to make the best jumps out of any other horse there and it all looks effortless, then he wins. Form follows function, not the other way around. Once you get the job done, you can split hairs on how people look doing it. I do expect that riders with a more classical working position, who execute the flat tests as well as he does, will slide up ahead of him on the flat.
Having said that, as a round-shouldered rider myself, I also think we have to acknowledge that female riders get nailed on position more than male riders seem to.
Yes, I can’t remember which number, but we got the camera angle from behind and looked like she went right past center.
Wieners win
Not to jinx anyone else, but if we got almost halfway through the class before that happened, it’s going pretty well. That means the course is separating them without being too scary.
I looked away for a moment. How did she come off?
Agree, Zayna is doing great. I come for the commentary on the actual trip.
Didn’t find the jump she wanted, got jumped out of the tack, couldn’t get back into it in time.
Agree! Gad to have some of that as i really do appreciate when Sissy and Jimmy (I KNOW, I KNOW) comment on the rounds.
Phew. Thanks.
Irrelevant pet peeve #2: That tail ain’t real. You aren’t fooling anyone. Put a half-pound or three-quarter-pound in there and feather the end of it, this is not AQHA.
Will there be a replay of this?
