That is for sure.
This is the list of kids who qualified, along with the waitlist.

IMO, if a fence, intended or not, turns into more of a trap then a question, itâs appropriate to change and/or avoid duplicating it in the future. Said that over on a Eventing last week as well. Whatever the reason, itâs more about avoiding an accident and injured rider and/ or horse in a very public venue then dumbing anything down. Keep in mind that this class is not run under the usual USE rules but itâs own unique procedures.
I defer to the decision of the Stewards here. It looks like the issue was the bottom of that fence does look like a black hole and you got white tablecloths and maybe server jackets at the horses eye level heading into the brightly lit scoreboard⊠Not intended but it did turn into a trap for most, including very experienced pairs.
They made the right call.
Have no opinion on Heritage riders selecting a different zone then the barn is located in. These days top riders donât just show in their own regions regardless of where they or the horse they lease or own legally reside. And they are completely within the rules. Maybe try to get better instead of fearing better riders, which you have to meet in the Finals anyway at far greater expense then Regionals.
For sure. And to clarify, the quote posted by frenchsubway was written by Nick Haness in response to Holly Scapaâs post, not by Holly.
Who is the âGrand Prixâ kid who fell off? I assume the other rider mentioned a few times is Augusta Iwasaki. I was shocked to see she didnât qualify.
Augusta fell off at fence two when the horse stopped and then stopped out on her do-over. I assume thatâs who Nick is referring to as one of the top riders in the country. She almost didnât qualify last year: she wasnât on the initial list, but made it in when some riders elected not to go to KY(*).
Not sure about the Grand Prix rider that Nick is referring to. I havenât been ambitious enough to cross check my list of stops in the first twelve against show records. Maybe tomorrow if I get stuck going in for jury duty.
(*) The only reason I remember this is that a kid from my barn was just ahead of Augusta last year and we joked that she gave Augusta the opportunity to go to KY.
I could be wrong, but I think the rider is Emma Reichow?
The ultimate winner of the class was in the order of go as first. Did she make it around the first time or did she do a re-ride?
That order of go is not correct. What used to the order or go now links to results.
Is this not the original order of go? It shows the eventual winner going first, but after that it does not match the results.

No. That starts from the top of my second page, goes down that page pretty much in order, and then continues on, starting at the top of my page 1, and continuing on mostly in the correct order. Strange
Order started 615 (OK; qualified), 182 (OK, but elected re-do; qualified), 125 (OK; first on wait list), 143 (stop fence 2; redo fine; qualified), 541 (stop fence 2; redo not good; did not qualify), 142 (scratch, but listed later in order with a different horse; qualified on that horse), 703 (good, but rail; no redo; waitlisted), 355 (stop at fence 2; redo; qualified), 488 (hard look and over jump fence 2; stop and fall fence 3; redo still looky but got job done; last on wait list), 419 (OK, but slightly uneven; did not qualify), 106 (rail that was hers; awkward take-off on another (gasps from crowd), but fence 2 OK; redo; qualified) 209 (stopped out at fence 2; stopped out there again on redo), and 375 (stop/fall fence 2; stopped out fence 2 upon redo).
I tend to note really good rounds and errors only since those are typically the questions I get from people who werenât there. So OK means they were good, but probably not top five
Probably. She has shown in Grands Prix. She stopped at fence 2 and then qualified with a re-do.
Thank you, Peggy - your recap is so detailed, and really helpful for those of us who didnât get to experience!
IMO, I have never been a fan of Augustaâs style as an equitation rider and never place her in my personal top list, but judges do love her. She rides the hunters beautifully. But, still disappointing for her, she works really hard what I understandâŠgood thing she is young and has another chance or two or more!
Just for clarification, my understanding is that the steward was monitoring the warmup ring and was not informed of what was going on. The TD made the decision.
One of Hollyâs arguments is that they violated USEF rule HU109.2 which states âExcept in case of inclement weather, broken equipment or similar emergency a course must not be altered except by written permission of all exhibitorsâŠâÂ
Does anyone know if this hunter rule applies to a Maclay Regional as well?
Thatâs a hunter rule. Eq has its own rule book that refers to medals/maclay/USEF talent search etc.
I understand both sides but it really sounds like sour grapes on some peopleâs part.
Is there still a way to qualify by coming in the top 4 in one of the other major eq finals? I thought they said that in that TV show they did over the Maclay back in 2005ish? Iâm not an expert though.
if that is a thing then Augusta could still get in - top 4 is a reasonable possibility for her.
Itâs actually top 10, or top 4 for USET!

Yes, itâs a nice feature for a good rider who just has an unlucky day at regionals for some random reason.
I still canât wrap my mind around the do-over. Riders made it through, and maybe this is my ignorance, but it seems itâs linked to the favorites. I dunno. I feel like if they did change the fence make everyone go twice or leave the jump. One would think, after two or three trips with horses going over the fence and maybe sticky they would realize itâs a spooky fence. Do people not talk to each other after trips?
