We had one horse who was rescued by my daughter as a 6 month old who had a pasture injury that went untreated causing her left front knee to fuse. Horse was a very well bred TB. You could not trim her hooves as she could not put full weight on the left front. We had this horse for sixteen years and she was never trimmed, she wore her hooves evenly.
Over the years sixteen years we had her we monitored the deflection angle of her front leg, once it got to 45 degrees we humanly euthanized her. This was with fully agreement of our vet as otherwise she was completely 100% healthy and happy.
Our concern was that when she did break that leg there would be no way we could catch her, and that was not what how we wanted her to end her life. She was worthless as a horse, goofy as they could be but was the companion of my daughter’s competition horse. She was his shadow, … but give room she was the fastest horse I ever saw in a straight line and really a nice horse who really was not a problem other than she could be a goofball.
photos of her at 6 months, even then she stood bearing all front weight on her right front leg
