One horse was killed and another injured, and the driver of the rig that was hit is in the hospital. 
This is just insane and my heart goes out to the people involved, but not the POS who was texting and not paying attention.

I agree. Iāve seen threads here in the past discussing the various speed limits in different states. Here in CA, the posted maximum speed limit for cars is 65, and for trucks pulling trailers itās 55. Iām a defensive driver as it is, which can be challenging given the enormous amount of people driving who should not have been given a license, but Iām overly cautious when Iām hauling.
I donāt ever do 80+ as it is, I canāt even imagine going that fast when Iām towing my trailer. :eek:

It is wrong that people like that are able to be on the same road as those of us who actually care about what is in the vehicle/rig.

Towing at that speed is really pushing the envelope. Most trailer tires have speed ratings lower than that. The number 65 mph sticks in my mind.

I saw that on FB and couldnāt look at the photos. It was too heart breaking!!! I feel so sorry for those that lost their life and injured. Sad beyond belief because of some IDIOT person that feels itās important to text while driving and speeding at that!!! There are just no words but I hope heās haunted the rest of his life too.

Yup. If that had happened to me and I was able to walk, Iād beat the living crap out of the driver!!! Those poor, poor horses. We ask them to get into a box that isnāt natural for them and they trust us to do so. UGHā¦ just makes me so mad. I hope that driver doesnāt get off scott free!

Thank you for posting this. I originally thought the texting driver was hauling horses too at 83 mph, but it was just a trailer. Still such stupidity. The horse trailer driver and her horses were sitting ducks. Prayers for all affected by this senseless, selfish act.
Ugg how horrible. Towing ANYTHING at 80+ miles an hour is a VERY VERY bad idea, and crazy dangerous. CA the speed limit for anything towing any kind of trailer is 55 mph.
Canāt believe this Ahole just slammed the rig in front of him instead of veering off the road. The least he could of done is swerved for the shoulder, and hopefully just take himself out, not innocents.
I just chatted with my sonās GF who recently sold the horse, Bo, to a friend of hers. She said that yes, the guy was going 80 mph. (according to police, 83). Bo was killed, but unfortunately, not immediately. He did not suffer for long however, and died in his ownerās arms. Both the guy and her friend are ok. Her daughter however is in the hospital with a āminor bleed on the brainā. Donāt know how long she will be there. The surviving horse did indeed have 200 stitches. He was in shock, but loaded right up on another trailer to be taken to safety. He is eating and drinking.
The rumor that the guy was texting has not been confirmed.
My sonās GF said that the guy feels horrible about it all, and has taken full responsibility, The family hopes that people will not vilify him on the net, which I think is very generous of them. But I will abide by their wishes.
Hoping the second horse heals well (the picture she sent me of him doesnāt look too bad actually - big clean looking cuts on should and leg) her daughter gets out of the hospital quickly with no lingering problems, and the rest gets resolved.
Sorry if my other post showed pictures of the accident. I didnāt open the whole thing - I was just trying to post a picture of my sonās GF and Bo.
