Simkie, did you get a look at the airing system at the place you visited? I have all sorts of good ideas for economical bins, but am not clear on how the air would be distributed.
I didn’t get a real close look, but AFAIK, it’s a blower like for a bouncy house on a timer hooked up to a grid of PVC under the box the pile is in. I don’t think there’s anything bringing air up through the pile, but could be 100% wrong on that. The boxes I saw were perhaps 4’ cubes, so that might be small enough where the air underneath is enough to drive the microbe activity for really rapid breakdown.
