Mare with enlarged ovary

Oh and she doesn’t get alfalfa, she only gets Orchard hay…and then the grass down here in FL during her night turnout.

UPDATE With the enlarged ovary/multiple follicles, the vet recommended 10ml oral Regumate daily. She’s been on Regumate now since early June and she has NO MORE back soreness!!! I am THRILLED! It seems to really be helping her! Crossing my fingers this continues and that was her issue all along, poor gal!

My friend had her mares ovaries removed. She scheduled her to be spayed but when they went in they found them enlarged and did that. The mare had gone from sweet altho tempermental to acting like a viscious stallion. After the surgery she returned to her original self. She must be 20 by now, she’s been fine ever since.

Yeah mine has always been a TOTAL sweetheart, she doesn’t have an aggressive bone in her body! Which made sense after her test results came back and her testosterone was not elevated. The ones who get really aggressive normally are that way due to a higher than normal testosterone level.

We’re hoping that this winter when her natural cycles would be slowing down, that we can try taking her off the Regumate and see what happens. The vet is hoping that she can go without it, at least in the winters, so that she’s not on it year-round. So far I must say I am thoroughly enjoying having a mare who doesn’t go into heat ever!
