Mariano Bedoya Show Stables

Mariano Bedoya is new to town. Anyone have any information on him or his wife Luciana?

It sounds like he was most recently in IL and VA before that. Winters in FL. That’s really all I could find out.

I know Mariano personally. Pretty good guy, which is hard to find. Former member of the Argentine Equestrian team back in the day.

He just left Northern Illinois–(he was out of three different barn; he had his own place, Sugar Grove, 3-4 years ago but it wasn’t lucrative…and is still on the market)–to officially move to CO in October.

I was very sad as he was one of the two trainers in the North (WI, IL, etc.) that an advanced rider could actually learn from. I was going to import a horse and board with him until he told me of his plans to move.

Not much information on Luciana. He said that she runs the business. Rarely rides; though I could be wrong. He makes annual trips to his hometown of BsAs to buy horses…though he will make exceptions to go to extended buying trips over in Europe if a client doesn’t want an ARG WB. (I myself had leased an 18hh one from a different, dishonest person.)

Goes to Ocala instead of Wellington, so if you don’t have the money to actively and continually show throughout the year, he’s not for you…he’s admitted that many times to me, as I don’t like the politics of showing, especially in Northern Illinois and WEF.

He is very close to the CO Horse Park and has just been in Vegas for the National, showing with clients…two of his advanced riders were against Andy Kocher, Kevin Babington, etc. Didn’t place well, but those people are amateurs against pros and Olympians. Just gives you an idea of the upper caliber 4**** shows he can attend. Knows international/Olympian South American riders like Samuel Parot.

Very nice guy. However, be prepared to be on the road showing. If you don’t like that sort of lifestyle or don’t have the financial inclinations to do, he is not for you, as he has no assistant trainers back at his home base in CO…everyone goes with or doesn’t ride/have lessons if he is gone for weeks showing.

PM me if you want his cell number.

Which is it? You were going to import and buy but stopped due to his impending move, as you say here, or fear of dishonesty in commissions, as you state in your other thread?

“I know an Argentinian trainer. Nice guy, but I wouldn’t trust him in this situation. He was on the equivalent of Argentine “USET” team. I was supposed to go with him to BsAs. He obviously has a lot of connections there. He promised and promised I’d find my 1.20m-1.30m jumper with my dressage for $30k. But was afraid of him screwing me on commission for him and his friends and not getting a truly good horse because of the language barrier and him growing up to Olympic levels in the country and knowing everyone.”

PM me his cell please ;).

BsAs is a rather unique way to identify that city. And a trainer competing on that level on the road much of the year is a rather unique choice for a rider who claims they don’t want to show.

Certainly sounds like a decent choice for a show jumping rider wanting to advance and sounds like a rider not wanting to go to shows would be miserable. That’s hardly the trainers fault.

to right horse at the right time, who was quoting bringing_up_baby: (reply still all messed up, sigh)

"Which is it? You were going to import and buy but stopped due to his impending move, as you say here, or fear of dishonesty in commissions, as you state in your other thread? "

I would ignore that poster. If she is who I think she is, her recommendations for Chicagoland trainers frequently changes, nobody here knows lateral work or is good enough to train her, they’re all swindlers and crooks, nobody will give her the nice horses she deserves to ride, and so on. She changed usernames a little while back because local riders and trainers started calling her out on the nonsense.

Caveat: I don’t know for sure but post history reeks of it. I would ignore the differing posts from her unless you want a big long winded argument that goes nowhere.

Edited to add: After reading the other thread in entirety, I realize that many people already stated my suspicions. I started raising an eyebrow earlier this spring, for what it’s worth, so I’m not just witch hunting. Still pointless to argue with either username, though.

I just sit back, amused at middle-aged ladies having nothing better to do than look at ways to “criticize” me. It’s very entertaining. What, do I need to write my life’s story for you people to get the overall picture?

It’s funny the many numbers of people who have PM’d me asking for my advice…so apparently your desire to discredit my vast knowledge of the dirty, corrupt, not-so-secret world of the Illinois H/J scene isn’t working. But keep trying.

Glad you enjoy your dishonest little bubble of doing whatever your “USHJA” joke certified trainer tells you.

P.S. findeight–BsAs is how locals identify Buenos Aires.

Happy New Year!

If you’re local to Buenos Aires, why do you need an Argentinian guy to travel there to buy you a horse?

Or is this just one of those “trying to be cool” things that’s over my head?

:lol::lol::lol:

I had a banner show year so I - STILL - have no complaints about my trainer. Trainer is awesome and honest and puts me on multiple fancy horses every day (who can jump 4’+ and do fantastic lateral work  ). We had this conversation with your other username a couple years ago, HEB.

Back to the topic at hand, I knew a girl who rode with Mariano a while ago and she was very happy with him. He set her up with some nice horses and she had quite a bit of success. I don’t really see her much anymore but she seemed really happy with his operation.

Did you smack your head on the pavement and have amnesia while reading between my original and last post? I never said anything was bad about his operation. He is a nice guy. Didn’t want an Argentine WB and have been burned by bigger name trainers than him here in America, so excuse me if I’m leery about trusting someone who is showing me horses of his friends and I don’t speak the language.

And I don’t know of any trainer that would give a rider fancy 1.20m with actual lateral/dressage work unless you are a paid pro. I’m calling BS.

I was posting some input about the topic of the thread, hence my saying “Back to the topic at hand.” It had nothing to do with you.

Just because trainers won’t let YOU ride a horse like that…doesn’t mean trainers won’t let ME ride a horse like that.

Dang right, CJ!! I have a few fancy horses I let select amateurs and juniors sit on from time to time; they’re sale horses, so they can suck it up and deal with it!

Mea culpa on the BsAs. I live in the USA, have been to that city but only briefly, was not aware locals refer to it as BsAs. Pretty much assumed most readers here would not be aware of that. My mistake.

Or does “locals” mean around Chicago?

How do you know that trainers haven’t let me ride fancy horses? You don’t. I’ve ridden a couple of six-figure horses…one was a former Nations Cup horse for Ireland. The other was the private mare of the owner of the same wealthy show barn. That mare didn’t click with most people, but my trainer at the time commented that we did well together…she had nothing to gain. I don’t think my well-known BNT, who is an “R” judge would’ve put me on those horses that weren’t hers if I couldn’t ride.

I’ve also ridden many upper-five figure sales horses. And talking about the super naughty ones, I was riding one and basically retrained it during my lessons. The owners suddenly took renewed interest in how well he was doing and gave the ride over to another girl who owned three horses there.

And no. When I text or FB chat with the Argentine trainer or an up-and-coming talented Argentinian photographer whom I’ve met as we were both media photographers at LGCT in Miami, they both say BsAs. They were both born in the capital.

Bringing up baby, all you are doing with your braggart posts is making people roll their eyes at you.

For realsies. NO ONE CARES.

If you are so well connected, why can’t any of these top-notch amazing people find you a horse? Why do you need advice from strangers on the internet?
