Maryland Starter Trials and good starter events in MD/VA

I have a whole list of unrecognized events and combined tests in the area. I try to do combined tests and dressage shows only at venues where I can also school xc.

I will get the links for you, if you wish but here are some of them coming up over the next month or so:

Difficult Run HT
Deep Run HT
Kelly’s Ford CT (has xc schooling)
Riverbend CT (has xc schooling)
Redlands CT (has xc schooling)

I am going to all but one of the above with young horses who need exposure. These are all northern va and md. I am sure there are more that are south of here (VA Horse Trials website) and north of here. Also, check out www.CDCTA.com for more combined tests etc.,

I believe Deep Run Pony Club is putting on an unrecognized in April, although I know nothing about the difficulty.

I did this horse trials about five years ago and it was really nice. Dressage and sj are in sand arenas and the xc was excellent. I would say it was typical for the levels.

As far as schooling ht sometimes being more difficult… yes, I’ve found this to be the case, as well as sometimes xc courses that aren’t as well designed as the recognized ones. But they are cheaper, and a great way to get exposure for young horses. I haven’t been to one for a couple of years only because I haven’t had any green horses ready to compete. I am really enjoying doing schooling shows this spring though. Fun times with fun people in a relaxed atmosphere!

Springfest Horse Trials Chesapeake City MD!

Fair Hill has a great unrec. they don’t go up to training but their Novice is legit.

Fair Hill runs their unrec at the same place as their recognized (but not the same area as the 3 day), so be ready for there to be a bit of a walk from dressage to jumping…

Also be ready for a LOT of people and nice long gallop-y x-country courses.

I’ve never gone recognized training so I’m not the expert to compare, but I have jump judged at Fair Hill’s and they do often put a trakener on the novice course, as well as an up bank, water complex, and ditch.
