Mascara on ponies?

This can’t really be a thing …it’s just too ridiculous.

that’s actually really nice stuff…better than using baby oil. Some over use it…but we were using this stuff even for jumpers back 20+ years ago (the clear stuff).

Yeah, just a fancier (or maybe just more expensive?) version of baby oil and a 40 blade. Staples of the breed ring for 40+ years.

yes but it didn’t feel as greasy. I hadn’t seen it in years (smells good too). It is something we would use on the event horses for the jogs too. I like that it offers some sun protection

Now for the eventers and jumpers…we never bothered with the clipping like is done at the breed shows.

Wonder what that pony is going to look like in the morning after sleeping with his mascara on.

BTW - it’s clearly mascara…the left eyelashes are black, the right are white.

I’m kind of surprised it isn’t Lancome mascara, actually.

I must say, quite the nice manicure for the applier as well  Any guesses as to who this nicely manicured mascara painter is? Mom, trainer, groom, teen??? I was also thinking maybe this was just something silly, but there is actual mascara on those lashes so I’d love to hear form the photog if this was for real, or just a silly shot after the model was over or something??

I think it was done, primarily, to stir things up a bit/get some photo press. Sigh.

Raccoon eyes, just like humans.

I had a fancy show pony for sale about 10 years ago, and I had a very successful aged-out pony rider come over to ride her in a sale video. She had ridden for some of the top pony people in the business. She whipped out a tube of mascara for my pony to take conformation pictures. So I guess this has been going on for a long time…

Not. Concerned. At. All. Untwist thy panties. No ponies were harmed in the filming of the Revlon commercial.[/QUOTE]

Tee hee, I’d love to see an actual Revlon commercial with ponies. Revlon’s really missing out on a whole market by not having this…

Dark around (and in football players, under) the eye will help reduce the glare of the sun. If the pony has had trouble judging his jumps due to the sun’g glare in his eyes, then something like this would be appropriate from a competition/performance standpoint. A dark colored horse has this naturally, but this poor grey guy also has the sun glaring off his cute, light-colored self.

I kind of like the idea of applying “war paint” before jumping a round.

GR802 Artificial Markings and Appliances 1. Any change of color or markings other than mane, tail or hoof is prohibited. (Exception: Arabian and Half/Anglo Arabian halter, see AR106; Reining Division; Friesian Division; Paso Fino, see PF101.5-.6). Only clear grooming materials are allowed on the hide and hair. Materials may be used to remove stains.

The great Iris McNeil watched an exhibitor apply mascara to her horse at (major horse show). She asked the young lady “isn’t that against the rules?” The young lady replied “everyone does it, nobody ever gets caught.” Iris introduced herself (she was officiating at said horse show) and the young lady removed the makeup. Miss you Iris. Best steward ever.
