you are not alone!
our barn always has some wine in the mini fridge, and we drink out of solo cups. the one time I tried to be “classy” and buy the small solo cups of a more appropriate size for wine, I was yelled at because they didn’t hold enough!

This has turned into such a lovely thread! I think is Ammys should get together and have nice shirts made that discreetly talks about booze. Something like “I’m a lowly ammy DIYer” on the front and the back says “so who brought it today”. Lol[/QUOTE]
I like this idea a lot. We’ve been to a few shows lately that have an international hunter derby on Saturday morning with mimosas As a spectator, I find that that really does take the edge off of my nerves. I’ve noted as well that DD’s boyfriend seems especially chill on those Saturdays. Keep it up derby sponsors!

We do too! I bought the “fancy” plastic champagne flutes one time. Those didn’t last long.
My mare totally knows what’s in a red solo cup and practically begs for a taste every time!
Boxed red wine = adult Kool-aid
Cheers!!!
For away shows where we stabled overnight, the adults (competitors or parents) would have a rota tending bar in the aisle after evening chores. It’s how I learned that my mother, who drinks half a glass of wine once a year, makes a mean margarita.
For day shows where the horses aren’t stalled, one tailgates.

Wild Vines, I think it is, is adult Kool-Aid. I believe I saw a tropical punch blend.
A trainer I worked for ages ago kept a stock of Heineken or Amstel (also, incidentally, a Heineken product, invented by the guy who was importing/marketing Heineken into the US but I digress) in the tack room fridge.
I remember summer evenings when the last thing left to do was cleaning the bridles on the hook, the smell of glycerin soap, the sounds of horses eating their dinners, with the sun slanting in from the high window, and a cold, crisp, Heineken.
Perfection.
You should see carriage drivers! And I am talking the fancy 4-in-hands. Those lovely leather bound trunks on thw back are retrofitted as coolers. They start the day with bloody Mary’s, move on to champaign mid-day, and scotch at 5 pm. Hanging out with that crowd (although at the end with just a single and later a pair) is where my husband first experienced high end scotch (not me, I definitely cannot drink an drive :).
Back in my foxhunting days, I accepted a bet that I couldn’t jump the next fence with a glass of port in my hand, and not spill it.
Guess I showed them…

Simply the grown-up version of the egg and spoon race from gymkhana days
Back in my drinking days I remember the show steward confiscating our newly-opened bottle of tequila and mixer when I wasn’t looking - Guess she didn’t appreciate our ringside humor ! #suchawaste
You guys are wonderful! I’m so excited to start riding with y’all awesome hunters!!
The only thing that even comes close to being as good as shower beer after a long, hot horse show day is washrack/grazing beer after a long, hot horse show day.
Washrack/grazing beer, and THEN a shower beer after getting home or back to the hotel? Yes please.

yes!!
best shower beer, IMHO - Rye95 by Two Roads Brewing Company.
project horse & I just had our first 3-phase show yesterday and there was DEFINITELY booze in our cooler. I had a nice Rye 95 after our last phase (XC) and we both got to kick off and drink/‘graze’ while watching other competitors.

Honestly, for me it’s Michelob Ultra. It’s the BOMB.COM on a hot day - you can drink it fast because it’s not a heavy beer like some craft beers or IPAs…so you can chug the whole thing while it’s still freezing cold.
Also, I’ve been known to keep a sixer of Miller Lite in my tack trunk for emergencies. A girl I used to ride with and I would often be the only ones out late at night and in the winter (ONLY if we were having a snow storm) I’d stop by the convenience store on my way to the barn from the office and buy a six pack and plop it out in the snow while we rode, and then we’d sit outside on the bench and drink beers and watch the snow fall. Such a weird tradition, but it was actually really awesome.

Ohh… #judgingyou … (kidding) I’d rate a Michelob on par with a PSL though - yuck! but can appreciate the ‘light enough to chug’ criteria… R95 is definitely not one you want to chug. Unless you wanna be WGW by the time you step out of the shower.
For a while, I liked shandies for shower beers!

Leinie’s Grapefruit Shandy. I bet that would be a good shower beer.
And hey don’t worry, I judge myself for my love of Mich Ultra. I mean, don’t get me wrong I love a craft beer and a good hoppy IPA, too. But when you’ve been horse showing or doing yardwork in 100 degree heat and just want something cold and fast? Gimme a crappy US lager that I can chug and won’t give me a headache or make me feel so full I want to die!!!

Me too! But my excuse, I don’t ever drink any soda , is that I crave some cold carbonation. I too prefer Mich Ultra for that quick refresher. For the slower times I prefer a Smithwick’s.
