I have very small feet (size 4) so I ride in their 4.5” stirrups. I’m not sure if the width of the 4.5s is any different than their larger sized stirrups but mine are definitely wider than others I’ve owned before
I have (as I posted before) the “S” classics and don’t find I lose them. I have the 4.5" stirrups, and am a 6.5 shoe size.
Good to know!
I have the MDC Super Sport model. LOVE them for my horse who is a bigger mover. Helps with my transitions to stay more with him. ftr, I am a dressage rider so no clue about them for jumping.
Ty for your input! I event so I might try my friend’s for a dressage lesson too.
Are the ones with the “s” top legal in the hunter ring?
I have the “S” tops 4.5”. I wear a 7.5 shoe. I emailed the company and they recommended the size. I also ride in SoJumps. Leg is on and stable. I actually need to work on being softer and less grippy in my Eq now.
I love my MDC stirrups! If you call the company’s main number, you will likely talk to the owner, who is great about helping you figure out the right configuration for you. And they have a money back guarantee, so you have nothing to lose by giving them a try.
I have the Jumper Classic and love them! The wide foot bed combined with jointed branches are super comfortable! I bought these as I am not wild about the S top or the Sport Classic top (just a personal preference).
I would highly recommend these irons, amazing what a bit wider foot bed can do for stability.
I had them and returned them for the same reason most of the others have mentioned. I lost them over fences, and found the footbed so wide I couldn’t keep my heels down. I also have a smaller foot (7), so the stirrup took up a lot of my foot which i think was the problem. I have the wide-bed Royal Riders and don’t have that problem, but the footbed on those is obviously cheese-grater style which probably makes a difference. They’re also very heavy IMO.
I had the MDCs in the S-top which I really liked and I’ve always wanted to try again in the regular-width, but haven’t been able to find them in person.
I have the MDC Sport Classic stirrups and do love them for their weight (so so easy to get stirrup back if you are doing no stirrup work) and grippiness. I have been having trouble keeping my heels down enough though, especially over fences. I haven’t straight lost my stirrups, but I do feel my feet come off and feel like I’m just hanging on in the air. I never considered that it might be my stirrups- assumed it’s my eq (which I’m obviously working hard on!). But I do have small feet (6.5) and now I’m wondering if the wide bed stirrups are contributing. I have the 4.75 width.
Wondering if foot size plays a part in the comfort of the MDC irons…I have big feet so maybe it is easier for me with the wider foot bed and not losing the irons?
I did notice when I rode in them that the footbed, because it’s so wide and my feet are women’s 9 1/2 that the balls of my feet didn’t feel sore like they normally do, which I also find funny because the MDC footbeds are metal and my fillis beds are rubber.
I find them super comfortable! I agree, odd as there is no rubber in the footbed…
I have MDC S-top and I too, LOVE them. I had reached out to the owner of MDC a year ago about purchasing the regular width tread, because I too thought it would help me keep my heels down even more. The owner called me within 24 hours, listened to what I had to say, and then gave me a lot of compelling reasons why he felt I should stick with the standard wide tread that the stirrup comes with. Boy, was he right!! The regular width tread is available for $35 extra, and I believe only by reaching out to the company directly. They respond quickly. Worth the conversation in my opinion.
