Meaning of the term "Lands and Fields"

There is an old term, Lands and Fields, in which one is the part of the pasture that the livestock grazes and the other is the part used for defecation. I find this to be a useful concept, but I have forgotten which are the Lands and which are the Fields. Can anyone help me on this?

I have heard in as lawn and roughs. The lawn is what they actively graze and the roughs are the taller grasses and areas where they have defecated.

Ditto.

Thank you. That probably indicates that the lands were the grazing area. Also, the terms both of you know seem to me to indicate the origin of the game of Golf, don’t they?
