So glad Matilda is having some summer fun being a riding horse with a gentle and sympathetic rider.
What a difference!
Please keep on updating us.
Oh! I forgot to share the test results from UC Davis. Matilda is N/N for HERDA, HYPP, MYHM, MH, and PSSM1. She’s a carrier (N/G) for GBED which is asymptomatic for her. It would only matter to her foal if she were bred to another carrier.
During vaccinations last week I told our vet that Matilda is still creating a lot more wet spots in her new paddock, despite the fact that the rain has stopped and we added more dirt. The vet pulled blood for a Cushings test. The results came in yesterday. ACTH was only slightly high (37) but insulin was crazy (200s). Her diet is already low in sugar and she does not get pasture. We just started her on Prescend. We caught it early so we hope to keep it well controlled.
You’re very observant, and thank goodness! You also remind me to be aware of horses that pee and pee and… pee. Something could be going on.
Love Matilda’s photo. Her face is so sweet and reflects the great care you’ve given her.
One observation from our farm sitters. Matilda was polite when they fed her but she did not want them messing with her at all. She’s decided that she prefers her family. We’ll work on that. She needs to know that other people are good, too.
