It’s on now!
What time? Which channel?
TIA! :)
I have Comcast. It’s on from 9-11 on MSNBC. For me, it’s Channel 76, but that depends on where you live. My husband found it for me. That was his only contribution besides saying “all the horses look the same”
^ Thanks!!

That makes me feel better. My boyfriend came out to meet my horse when I first bought him and I picked him up out of the paddock to show him off and BF goes “how do you know which one is yours?”
blinks Uh… WHAT?!

Really?? Just enjoy the damn coverage and quit your griping! Sheesh people!
You know…it is YOUR choice to keep coming back to this thread…don’t like the complaining? Don’t come back to the thread.
I have been following the NBC live feeds so haven’t heard any of MST’s commentary during this Olympics–I’ve enjoyed her in the past. But I think the British broadcaster, Michael Tucker, was just wonderful for eventing and show jumping. So refreshing not to have everything dumbed down; he showed respect for his audience by assuming viewers have a certain basic level of knowledge. It was also refreshing to have only one commentator working, so there were no competing voices and more focus on the action. Thanks to NBC for making all this available!

Indeed. I was just saying how I wish I had him for dressage today too!
Here look…I can do it…
"and now the horse is doing the movement called fancy prancing. This is very difficult and takes years of practice. The movement is even harder when the riders have to synch it to music, also known as horse ballet.
Now you’ll see the horse galloping down the diagonal. This part of the test is to see how fast the horse can go and also to let him blow off some steam so he can concentrate better.
Oh, he has slobber on his chest…the groom will be in trouble for that! Where’s the towel??
Do you see how Gal rides with one hand like that? Its because his right hand is tired and he is resting it. Probably a cramp. I hope he works out of it. Or he is doing some western dressage.
I heard that might be at the Rio Olympics in 2016. I hope so. I’m a big fan of Buck! "

See? Easy as pie!

i have enjoyed both, completely different, and in line basically with what i think one would expect from the BBC vs. any american coverage.
mr. tucker, not being an american, did rather step in it when he “filled” time by commentating that ward is the son of a famous american grand prix rider, barney. famous? rather… infamous.
i agree with sunshine state that velvet has far too much time on their hands. whine away, we have an option and choices to watch two distinctly different coverage markets and we are pissing and moaning about it. if the dressage people want to gripe about MST and her inadequacies take it to your board.
Nothing to add here, since there seems to be sufficient “point/counterpoint” on the thread, but is anyone else annoyed by her inability to pronounce the word “important”?
It is NOT “imported”!!
Argh…
Carry on.

Nope. This is the appropriate board and topic. To whit, she is not a dressage rider so why would the dressage board ever want to talk about her?
Oh, and you’re just jealous that I have so many posts.
I can’t get any of the coverage without paying mega-bucks extra to my cable provider - what free I get on MSNBC never comports with what they SAY the schedule is, so while I set my DVR, I’ve seen less than 10 seconds of Rafalca, and a momentary “oooh, look at the Royals looking at Zara!” moment. Sigh.
BUT …from past experience, I’d say let Melanie pontificate away as long as it concerns jumping a horse over a fence, but please keep her away from the DRESSAGE! I’ll never forget her commentary at Barcelona where she kept incessantly counting the tempi changes, without any thought as to whether they were straight, expressive, through, etc. Just kept emphsizing whether they got the correct number of changes, as if that were the ONLY thing that mattered. Her lack of knowledge re FEI-level dressage (I’m sure she’s fine if she were commenting on eventers’ dressage) was embarassing.
Sorry, accidental double post.

Oh no. She was far from fine there too. Every bit as bad then.
She should just quit. Really, I mean, is it worth the money to do a bad job? Like I said, I know her qualifications for jumping are (or were) solid. The dressage? Never. And NBC will not figure that out unless SHE explains it to them. She needs to tell them to get experts in each sport. Not just have her do them all. She just CANNOT speak to dressage. It’s not within her purview.
MST, step away from dressage!!! Before you :dead: dressage for all Americans.

You have some cheek…the movements required in eventing dressage are the same in pure dressage and are required to be executed and judged in the same manner. If she cannot discuss a canter half pass in GP dressage, she can’t discuss it in eventing dressage.

Well, that’s why I have an Appaloosa, of course.
Seriously - It IS one of the reasons that most mounted police units will not use Appies, Paints, greys, etc. If someone wants to make an accusation or single someone out, they want all the police on “brown” horses, so someone can’t say, “It was the guy on the spotted horse! Police brutality!!!”

You are overeacting. I merely meant that the demands of eventing dressage are lower than those of FEI, while the quality of correctness required may be the same, and that it would be easier for MST to educate herself to comment more accurately on what is a roughly 3rd level test than a GP test. Third level doesn’t require the collection of FEI dressage, and the half-pass demands are much simpler, though they need to be “correct” in dressage terms. FWIW, I have evented through Prelim/Intermediate, so I’m not just throwing that out there.
Maybe so…

But I think it is such a sad state of affairs when people are more concerned about a commentator than the fact that Our US equestrian teams walked away with Zip medals this year.

You win some, you lose some. Sad that the US Team (and our Germans G) didn’t do better. Shouting “We’re No. 1!” doesn’t make it so. But having a poor commentator spoils the experience, win or lose. Frankly, in all the other Olympic sports, even when the commentary is completely educated, I am annoyed by the U.S. slant on EVERYTHING…as if other competitors are just an obstacle to get through so we can watch the 'murricans WIN!! I enjoy watching ALL the competitors and applaud ALL the efforts, and it’s just that much better when “our guys” do well, but if they don’t, well, them’s the breaks.
