Local Merritt paper Merritt Morning Market has a bit of a write-up (not good at posting).

Thank you 5!

Jingling.

So sad.

This popped up on my facebook even though I am very far away.

My thoughts are with this poor guy and his family.

After sixteen search and rescue teams failed to find any sign of Ben Tyner, and temperatures dropping to minus 24 degrees, the RCMP Major Crimes Unit has been brought in. Resident can expect increased police activity in the area.

Somehow this seems a little late, but hopefully they will learn something.

Wild random guess … a horse found with an empty saddle is probably not considered to be evidence of a crime. Being missing for so many days without an explanation can be justified as an indication that a crime may have occurred, so now law enforcement can move into gear.

Definitely it is better to do the crime investigation immediately, but it is down to how it can be justified to the law authorities. Maybe they really thought they would have found something by now, given the thoroughness of the search.

Do the locals feel that the search they conducted should have turned him up if he just met with an accident of some kind? Or is the terrain and locale such that he could still be lying somewhere undiscovered?

If they have really found no trace whatsoever of what may have happened to him after such an extensive search – whatever did happen will be an interesting story, and probably not a simple one, whatever it is.

Maybe they are working on a tip?

If RCMP Major Crimes is involved? There might be more then has been shared. The Feds dont usually step in and replace Provincial oversight for missing persons in the wilderness.

Today’s Google:

Family asking for public’s help - they are returning to Wyoming. Police do not suspect foul play but are investigating anyway.

Ben’s brother posted a moving tribute on Facebook.

Jingling he is found safe, wherever he may be.

Locals who knew him say he was unlikely to do one of those deliberate disappearing acts, and the weather has been too nasty for a survivor out there, especially if he was ill-equipped for minus 25 degrees C. There are just no answers to any of the questions - just a mystery so far.

So sad and upsetting. It’s empty rangeland up there and a big cold snap and snow. Only three hours drive out of the big city and totally remote.

I’d like to know why AP feels the overwhelming need to post about Ben & imply they had some deep relationship?
Not only is it tactless but this isn’t about her.
hope the MCU have a lot of leads to follow. This is devastating. Jmo

How many suspect foul play?

I’ve been checking in on this thread & keep recalling a story my cousin told me.
In college he spent a Summer as a hand on a working ranch.
One early morning job was to ride the thousands of acres of fenceline & make repairs as needed.
He told me one horse knew the routine so well that even if he dozed off in the saddle, horse would stop at every post & stand until he woke.
I imagine if a rider slipped from the saddle, horse might stand for a while, then head for home.

I hope the family is able to find out what happened, no matter the outcome.

This story has gripped me and so many others. Partly because I know that historic ranch, the house he lived in and some of the employees, and have ridden up there quite a bit (when previously owned). Hard country.

Also, many of this board know the lifestyle, the hard work, the long days and often dangerous, solitary hours. A
lifestyle people are passionate about.

The facebook page written by his younger brother was heartfelt.

I feel he is at peace right now, and that helps, but we still need answers.

Are you under the impression Ben suffered an accident?
how close was his resident home to other homes?

Who is AP?
