Metronidazole for Diarrhea
I’ve followed your posts for awhile and remember clearly how rough his winter was last year.

You’ve been there for the horse for many years, you know him best, I am certain that if you are saying it’s time… it is time.

Whatever happens today, my thoughts are with you.
Thanks Flash, I’m waiting for the vet to call back. She wasn’t in the office yet when I called at 9 AM and I left the message about what he was currently getting and that I am on bended knee to please try the metronidazole. If not, then euthanasia this week. I’m guessing she doesn’t come in until after lunch so I’m hoping to hear something by afternoon.

Actually his manure thru the night wasn’t too bad, still loose and soft but a little hope of some fecal ball formation. Then he went out this AM after I brushed him and cleaned his butt and came back in his stall and liquid manure again. :frowning:

Hi,
I know this is an old post, but I have had my horse on Metronidazole for approx 3weeks now, and his squirts is totally gone. I am going to back off the 2 doses a day to just one to see what happens, as this is expensive. I have it in powdered form, cost $110 for 30 day supply, giving him 2 doses a day. He is still healthy, same horse, just no brown stains on his back legs. He has good gut sounds, manure is more formed, and he is eating and drinking as usual. Keeping fingers crossed that this is the magic bullet!
