Thanks for that… I’ve only known breeding on horses up to 21 years of age because things are so unreliable at that point. Repro isn’t my forte.
30 days would be an odd length for reproductive problems. Mares cycle every 21 days. There are outliers, but 30 days would be long.
I’d also expect that the vet would have palpated the ovaries when she was rectalled with the colic and with the abdominal ultrasound. If nothing was noted as unusual at those times, that takes repro further down the list.
I don’t know if all very aged mares remain very fertile or if it’s healthy for them to carry a foal. But they do continue to come into season and get all squealy!
I wonder if you vets could use a tool like this non invasive and very helpful sounding https://thehorse.com/167900/camera-in-a-capsule-a-new-way-to-view-horses-gi-tracts/
And she has sand in her manure. 5 fecal balls yielded about a teaspoon of sand. This could mean something… or it couldn’t. Vet is coming this week sometime to further discuss.
Radiographs revealed sand in her colon, though fairly mild. Occult blood still present in manure.
Plan is for upper endoscopy, cushing’s test, pro-probiotics.
Horse had another CBC/chem and lyme pulled. Manure firmness varies greatly still, though she hasn’t presented uncomfortably since the first episode.
