Mini Houdini - Grazing muzzle help needed

And I use a Tough One muzzle on my third too - he doesn’t have a weight problem.

I also use genuine sheepskin and watch for rubs and get it on those areas the moment I see anything brewing.

Last, In 10 years of muzzling (or more), my dentist nor I have ever seen dental damage.

Just FWIW.

The tough one muzzle is what she has. Those are rubber based so they don’t cause dental issues. the hard plastic of a greenguard and some of the others can cause issues.

I do like the look of the greenguard muzzle halter (just the halter) I will definitely look at that. For the moment I ordered a large dog collar from Amazon to vet wrap to the section above her ears and then clip under her throat behind the jowl. I like that the nylon dog halter would be like the halter for little chance of rubs and still has a safety latch so if she got hung up it would just release. Hopefully not everytime she tries to scrape the muzzle off.

I think you have my pony. His ears are tiny and thick mane, he is a pro at getting his muzzle off.

Make sure you have a bridle path cut where the top sits flat. Then braid mane in front and two braids behind the bridle path area where the halter crown fits. Then braid all three together around the crown piece and secure with a band. Then tighten it so they can’t rub the nose part off.

Doesn’t matter what throat latch as I’ve tried them all, if he can get an ear out, it’s coming off.

That’s a great find for an option. I need to check measurements, but might work for my escape artist. Braiding everyday is a pain.

In all fairness , laminitis/ founder from too much grass ( when the muzzle won’t stay on) is more of a sure thing than permanent damage to the teeth that may happen.

I am sure you will find a workable solution eventually.

Agreed. Teeth damage is the lesser of two evils IMO.

I had a dedicated cribber who was in his 20’s and did great despite what cribbing did to his teeth. I can’t see a plastic muzzle doing anything worse, but I am willing to risk it.
