True, we all know horses can injure themselves absolutely anywhere, LOL! But this horse in particular seems to have a history of getting cast in the stall and being fine out in a large paddock.
I think you will have to let the horse speak for himself. You ought to be able to tell if it’s going to work for that particular horse, and it may well not work for him.
I would see if paying more would get you a better stall or start looking for a different barn.
You’ve got a new horse, you want to be enjoying him, you want him to be happy with his new environment and you don’t want to worry every time you go to bed, whether he’ll get a good night too.
You’ve got worries about it from what you’ve seen so far, the trainer mentioned about his history. Maybe just start looking if you can all whilst you try negotiating a better stall at your present coop.
Another Vote For LARGER Stall
Friend’s 18.2 warmblood in 12x12 rarely laid down and eventually showed symptoms of narcolepsy from lack of REM sleep. Another horse 17.3 got cast in a 12x12 and broke his pelvis. I wouldn’t want to sleep in a 5x2 box and that’s similar to a 12x12 for your horse. These bigger horses generally need bigger stalls to be safe and comfortable.
What size of stall does a 16 3 hands tb need.?
