I have done my initials but then my things get lost in the sea of show barn stuff… If I can I put my last name on things. I seem to locate them better that way…
I prefer last names. I find the diamond and fonts used for initials to be too bold. I like being able to pick a softer font that’s easy to read for my last name.
I usually put it on an angle on the bottom back left corner of a cooler, scrim, or pad.
I love monograms. Now my last name has two words. It’s a struggle
I love a diamond monogram and if I were to use a monogram like this (with a larger letter in the middle), I would do F-L-M. Alas, I don’t like how a diamond looks with my initials in this traditional order… the first letter of my last name is not “balanced” enough for it to look right. Thus, if I do initials on something, I do all one size, and in order (F-M-L). (I do have a few things that were done with diamonds, before I realized it would look stupid).
To mark my items:
- Round tags get my initials all in one size in order (FML)
- Plates (bridles, martingales, etc) get my last name
- Saddle plate gets my first and last name
- If I were at a barn where all the horses had matching blankets, I would most likely do my last name
- For a trunk cover, I would most likely do my last name
- Horse boots get marked with my initials in Sharpie in a discreet location
- My Thinline halfpads are marked with Sharpie, but I don’t usually mark pads at all. If I did, it would be FML (same size)
If it’s an item that belongs specifically to a horse (a champion cooler or horses in a lesson/lease situation), then the item gets the horse’s name on it.
Monograms are one regret about not changing my name when I got married. The first letter of my husband’s last name makes for probably the best monogram.
There’s no time like the present!
