More about Diamond
Wow, glad I read this post! I JUST bought Earthborn (chicken catciattori) and my cats think its TERRIFIC!! Definitely a paws up vote on this! Hadn’t heard of it before so thanks!
We feed Earthborn to our dogs and they love it. It has the highest rating and comes highly recommended by the pet food “watchdogs” who do the ratings. Great food and great company!

Diamond has now recalled some Puppy dry food too.

I’d be interested to know as well as those are the foods I feed.
I would also be interested.

For those of you interested in the vitamin/mineral sourcing in Acana/Orijen:

We add trace minerals to our formulas to ensure that our formulas have the correct balance. Because of the high meat content in our formulas providing most of our minerals naturally is not a concern. Our trace minerals are all chelated. We use this form of organic minerals because they are much more bioavailable to the animals. Our trace minerals are chelated with an amino acid which is naturally part of other proteins in the animal’s diet as well.

In order to provide optimal levels of vitamins naturally we would need to include fruit and vegetables in a much higher level than would be biologically appropriate for dogs and cats. In the wild, wolves and wild dogs get enough vitamin content from the foods that they eat to survive; but not necessarily to achieve their peak health potential. By supplementing; we can provide the additional vitamins needed to provide a shiny coat for example. The vitamins that are supplemented into our diets are from natural sources.

All of our minerals are produced and sourced exclusively in Canada. Our vitamins come primarily from North America; if they are not available from North America we source from three European producers. Vitamins sourced outside of North America come from Switzerland, Germany, and France and are produced in these countries exclusively. We do not source or use vitamins or minerals produced in any other countries.

Thanks so much! I love my dogs’ Acana even more now!

Now TOTW is included in the recall :frowning: :frowning:

http://diamondpetrecall.com/diamond-expands-voluntary-recall/

My last TOTW bag matches the recall numbers that they have listed. I’ve been feeding out of this bag for about two weeks and it’s mixed in my food bin with a bag of Wellness - I was in the process of switching the dogs over to get away from the TOTW. My question is do I dump the whole lot and start over? Don’t you think that if this bag was affected that my dogs would already be sick? Everyone is acting normally and eating/drinking/pooping like normal. Thoughts??? Ugh I hate this :frowning:

Me, I would go get a bag of Wellness and just use that.

I’m also at the tail end of feeding a bag of TOTW affected by the recall. I probably only have 2-3 meals for two dogs left. So far no problems, though the hound did vomit the other morning. That’s been it though, nothing else, so I think that was more likely “I ate something in the yard that maybe I shouldn’t have.”

They’re going to end up on either Nutrisca or Pinnacle’s GF salmon/potato; it’ll depend on which one they do better on and which one I can get more easily. Unless I opt to go raw … :sigh:

Please be careful with any of the recalled food. Now they have reported cases of salmonella in people who handled the contaminated food.

I have the Roasted Lamb ToTW bag in my freaking pantry with the 3 and the X ! :o:(:eek:

Riley has ate nearly the whole bag already. Yesterday I picked up 2 trial size bags of Earthborn Holistic.

I think I am going to switch him cold turkey.

What do you guys think? ? ? I picked up the Bison formula which he has had before but it was ToTW’s bison formula.

I have plenty of cans of pumpkin on hand.

What say you CoTHers.?

I have never, ever had issues switching from one ultra-premium to another, even when I have not been able to do it gradually.

Given the potential issues with TOTW, I’d say go for it. Pumpkin and immodium are there if you need them!

I just dumped my TOTW and the boys got about half Darford, which they’ve been on for about a week, and half Pinnacle salmon/potato, which was similar to the TOTW pacific stream I had been feeding.

Hopefully we won’t have any digestive rebellions later …

For those who do feed raw, how big are your dogs and how much does it cost you every month? I am pricing out some mixes, just to see, and it seems like it’s going to be twice as expensive as kibble.

I realize raw has similar concerns with regard to bacterial contamination, but I need to look into it further to determine whether it’s a viable option for us.

Ugh that’s what I thought but wanted a second opinion  There goes about $75 worth of dog food down the tubes! Better than a massive vet bill or a dead dog though. I’m going to take my “mix” back to the store and still try to get a refund.

I used up the last of the TOTW that I had and I switched cold turkey to Wellness, and they never missed a beat.

Does anyone know for sure whether Blue Buffalo is involved with Diamond in any way? I can get that brand quickly tomorrow to get my dogs off the TOTW and after seeing a Wellness product show up on the recall list, I don’t know WHO to trust!! Who is going to be next??

Has anyone found recalled food on the shelves of the stores you buy your kibble at? I have to buy food soon and will book mark the page with all the codes and double check.

They expanded the recall to Canidae, Wellness, and Natural Balance. Be right back with the exact list…

I have switched between similar premium food without any issue EXCEPT for Evo. That one gave my dog explosive diarrhea. Ew.

I switched to raw-ish awhile ago. My dog is 25lb and pre-made frozen runs me $60-$70/month. Freeze-dried raw and stuff like ZiwiPeak run closer to $90-$100/month. Something like Honest Kitchen Preference where you add your own meat is like $50-$70/month.
If you can find a fresh meat source and make it yourself, it is much cheaper. I can’t do that and my dog thinks a raw chicken wing is an affront to nature so I just buy pre-made.

As far as I know, BB is not apart of Diamond.

Two weeks after hospitalization of two of our dogs, Taste of the Wild has been recalled… glad they are dribbling out the recalls… our vet bills topped $2000 last week and until this latest recall notice, the vets still weren’t thinking it was the food.

The most affected dog is still NQR and we are very concerned. BTW, Natural Balance voluntarily recalled (in a separate notice from Diamond’s)… very scary.
