morning 1 logistics report
Via Twitter: LexTran lines are lonnnnnnng. Foot traffic headed toward parking lot had to be diverted due to a skunk. Hotel shuttles are running efficiently.
I was one of the people on skunk patrol. What a hoot! You would be amazed at how many people have never seen a skunk before - even Americans. Mr Skunky was a hit. We almost had a security crisis when some international folks tried to short circuit the crowd and ran straight for the skunk, not realizing that it was there and not knowing what could happen!! We all started yelling STOP STOP STOP!!! They had no idea!!! Skunk completely unperturbed!

I took Berea Rd today, it was definitely NOT closed :D. They did put red around the speed limit signs to get your attention, but it was open for business.

Thanks, Absolut Equestrian and oldernewbie, for the responses. May try Berea on day one (Thursday). Oldernewbie: just to repeat, to make sure I understand. For example, Thursday and Friday’s morning and afternoon Eventing Dressage segments are two separate ticket events? So this would mean we scan the morning one, enter, then can leave the park to return to our car, then re-enter the park for the afternoon session with no worries? (I only ask because I don’t have our tickets in-hand, we were lucky to get tickets for all four days of the Eventing events from a friend who purchased them, but could not attend, she passed them on to us.) Thanks again for all the useful feedback! Can’t wait to get there!

The LexTran buses from downtown are GREAT! One $1 and drops you off at main entrance!! Volunteers were amazing and everyone has been super nice! Only let down so far has been the food. Miss the variety of food venders from Rolex plus they ran out for awhile when we tried to get dinner.
The main entrance GATE? Or, the main entrance from the road (meaning you have to walk to the entrance gate?)

What about volunteers and parking? Will our pass let us in and out to the vehicle through the day? Reason that I ask is that I’ve got XC and then the night in the steward’s trailer. I’d like to be able to take a nap in my truck before the night shift starts without having to go back into town. There should be several hours when I could grab some sleep.

Thank you, oldernewbie, for volunteering, and to all the other volunteers! You all looked so cheery and happy to be there! That really does add to the excitement of it all!! Hopefully you can last the entire 16 days!!

Upon leaving tonight, I noticed Berea Rd. and others that were a left off Iron Works to be closed, and you can only go right out the gate of Spy Coast, toward I75. That keeps the traffic on Iron Works down toward Russell Cave, to a minimum.

Agreed, it was fantastic!!

I believe Berea is closed when traffic picks up… I have seen it open and closed - and it seemed to be according to traffic.

Volunteers can come and go as the please pretty much, so no worries Viney!

Where do you pick up the LexTrans to get to the KHP?

You can get it at the transit center downtown every half hour. Parking is free on the weekends at their garage and $8 a day during the week.

It stops at some other spots…but you’ll have to look online. I was dozing off both to and from…thats what only 4 hours of sleep does to a person

Re: Berea Rd, they’ve had one of those tow behind lit up transportation signs like are used at road work sites advising that Berea Rd is closed except to local traffic at the intersection of 25 and Berea since maybe last Wednesday. Proof of the pudding will be Monday - the first business day after the start of WEG. Friday before WEG everybody was going home early and 25 was pretty darn busy. Sunday in KY everybody goes to church or Fayette Mall so as long as you stay away from Fayette Mall you’re good.
Now, can somebody PLEASE tell me what the banner was that plane was towing around? We never got close enough to read it, when we thought we might it turned to the south. We could see it all the way up at Toyota and I’m dying to know.

The “main entrance” for WEG ticket checking is in the parking lots toward the right front of the KHP, near the Pony Club HQ. That is where shuttles pick up/drop off. It is very close to the main outdoor stadium but a LONG way from the indoor stadium. There is also a ticket checking entrance from the campground.

If you can do the campground parking go for it. We did the Spy Coast field on Saturday and it took us forever to get out after Opening Ceremonies. About 45 mins to go 200 yards.

If parking shuttles are running behind, the walk from Spy Coast is not bad at all.

If you are at all science/eco/technology inclined be sure to check out the “Alltech Experience”

We are driving over from Louisville Saturday morning for XC day. Please tell me the best place to park… it sounds like we should park somewhere in town and take the shuttle instead of parking “on grounds” for $20. Is that right??? Where should we park for the shuttle? Any info would be helpful!

In a previous thread someone coming from Shelbyville was advised by the media office to take the second Frankfort exit, turn north, turn east on 421 and follow it into the heart of Lexington to the parking lot on Cox St, which is free and a short walk to the shuttle stops. Plan on two hours drive time at least from Louisville. Suggest you check out the Lextran website for more shuttle/parking information, and do some google mapping. Be aware that Cox has been reconfigured in the last few months and there may not be any online or print maps that are 100% accurate. Cox will be a right at the light after Lexington’s historic cemetary - the headstone place will be on the corner - and the lot will be pretty much an immediate left.
Weather today is overcast with scattered showers, three days ago it was 91, welcome to Kentucky!

Thanks Jersey Fresh!

If by ‘shuttle’ you mean LexTran (city bus system), here’s the scoop from the ‘horse’s mouth’:

.

And there’s www.Lexpark.org for parking, but I theeenk their server is a bit overwhelmed. You will need to have a map at hand, Lexingtonians forget that Rupp Arena means nothing to visitors in terms of what street something is on.

They do not forget, they know for certain that Rupp Arena is at the Center Of The Universe

Lex Tran from Rupp Arena

I just called the Lex Tran folks about taking the “Route 28 - Horse Park EXpress” from the Transit Center. The lady on the phone was really nice and helpful. She noted that the parking lot at the Transit Center is pretty small, and it fills up quickly on weekdays with city employees’ cars. She suggested parking a couple of stops into the route at the Rupp Arena Complex and catching the bus there. Park in the High Street Parking Lot, and the bus stops on High Street.

I was going to park at Spy Coast, but it sounds like getting out of there at the end of the day may be problematic, and the Lex Tran bus will drop you off pretty close to the entrance as oppossed to having to take a shuttle from Spy Coast to the entrance.

The address for Rupp Arena is 430 W. Vine Street, Lexington KY 40507 if you want to map quest it from where you are coming from.

I was going to bring my mountain bike to get to/from the parking lot. Does anyone think that will be a problem? I usually ride around the x-country course during Rolex. It’s a great way to get from jump to jump. That probably isn’t going to happen this time but at least I can get up to the “front door”.

p.s. It’s old with a ducted taped seat and I have a lock so I figure it will be safe enough parked next to a pole of some sort.

Anyone know how long it takes the hotel shuttle on Route 6 to get from Nicholasville Rd to the Park?
