I’m with Nezzy! I find the black bottle of Ultrashield works best in my neck of the woods. None are perfect.
When I lived in southern coastal SC we had horrible sand gnats. We mixed Skin So Soft concentrate in with their regular fly spray. It worked well enough.
Thats so cool!! I really do love this flyspray, and Espree in general. Their liniment is amazing too.
Pyrhana for me, hands down. I stock up during the summer to make sure I never run out (which would mean using a spray that doesn’t work as well). We have horseflies in the sun, deer flies in the shade, and ticks in the grass and I see a huge difference in repelling all three compared to everything else.
After deciding that nothing worked I decided to try Eco-Vet and, by golly, I think it IS the best I’ve tried. Unscientifically speaking, that is.
It does not need to be applied liberally, either. Designed by vets.
A GALLON is thirty bucks?! BE STILL MY HEART.
I saw that too! If you try it, please report back how you like it!
I’ve been using Endure for years. Farnam had a coupon last year that was good for $10-12 off a gallon. We have some nasty deer flies here that go right for the poll and ears and nowhere else. I use Flicks for that because those flies won’t go near him. It’s a combination of natural ingredients but I have no idea which one is the effective one. I soak the poll and ears rather than spray and it makes for a much more comfortable ride. I don’t use it elsewhere because it seems to cause a little bit of skin irritation on his chest. Odd.
I like the santa Cruz animal health brand fly spray. I finally bought a gallon coming into this year. I think it is similar to outsmart, but a gallon is $34.
Pretty much use fancy wording for water based, wouldn’t waste my money on it. Guess if it’s like all the other sprays that claim to kill /repel and does NOTHING. Flys around here are immune to water based sprays, they drink the stuff and keep on biting.:lol::lol::lol:
I’ve had great luck with Endure. I also like RepelX, but Endure seems to work great and I like that it’s water based. Pyranha was irritating to the skin and was a dirt magnet, so I replaced with Endure and haven’t been disappointed yet here in Florida.
I believe Endure is oil based, Tri-Tech is the water based version.
Nah, it’s “sweat resistant” but definitely not oil based. Doesn’t collect dirt like the oil based sprays, and dries out their coat like none other, IME.
I’ve tried almost every fly spray out there bc my TB is super sensitive, especially to mosquitoes (and I also love running my own mini experiments). I’ve found that Tri-tech actually works the best and I even splurged on the gallon size last summer. I tried eco vet as I got it in my monthly horse box and not only did it not work for me, it made my horse sneeze so badly that his nose started to bleed. I like endure as well, but I think the try tech is better. The pirahna didn’t have enough staying power. The ultra shield in the black bottle was terrible and literally did not repel flies even right after I applied it, I can’t figure out how people rave about it so much! I’m in Indiana btw. I’m sticking with my tri tech
Believe it or not, but the regular fly spray called Horse and Pony Spray is amazing! I get it at the Tractor Supply! It is not terribly expensive and it is oil based so it lasts allllll day long. It is the only kind I use. It actually kills flies when you spray them so I wouldn’t recommend if you are trying to be eco-friendly as it is probably not the healthiest thing.
I have used it worked great for two fly seasons. Then it stopped working end of second fly season. Could spay horses and flies weren’t effected.
Had to mix it with other oil bases sprays for it to work. Plus added diesel fuel to it.
Bugs are terrible I get that but dear god DON’T PUT DIESEL FUEL ON YOUR HORSES!
Seriously!
It’s only a 1/4 cup at most a 1/2 cup of diesel fuel mixed in 2 1/2 gallons of fly spray.
I actually just bought the Smartpak fly spray and am in LOVE. I’ve tried pretty much every brand out there…the Pyranha was my favorite before, but this OutSmart one smells delicious and actually seems to do a great job on my super sensitive chestnut.
