In his underneck.
8403 aka “Silkypants” lol. yes, that one!
8430, have you seen his body? His video?
yeah. we saw it. You wouldn’t BELIEVE some of the chunks bitten out of some of these guys~! I try to avoid them if for no other reason than every time i would see it in real life i would feel a sadness for him/her. One of them i got a few years ago was never pictured showing his left side (back in the days when they didn’t make the vids) and he has a couple of bashed in ribs. Like hoof-size curved deep indentation. Thankfully, he’s not compromised and also thankfully it’s behind his girth grove. Though if i were to put a western rigging on him the back cinch would indeed be right on it.
Did you mean 8403? He was my favorite, but 8430 was cute and chunky.
8403, ‘Silkypants’ is MINE! no matter what, i’m going to win him… 8430 is not my cuppa.
Cutest face of all, in this entire auction is 5995, but he wings out and is rumphigh. So, passed on him. But i’m still agonizing on the grays… i thought i had a solid pic…now i’m wobbling. 5 more days though so. Horse shopping is just about as much fantasy-fun as house shopping!
Blueheron, re: Thirds-lines on that guy. I think maybe he is angled, his front left shoulder being almost at the wall but his left hip at least a foot away. Foreshortening might make a big diff? in the thirds lines.
Foreshortening will lie but the videos of his movement don’t. Personally I think his conformation looks like he would move better than I see him move.
If I could, I would adopt one of the yearling bay geldings. They look nice.
Yes, I did look at the body and the video.
He looks chunky to me (as do a lot of these horses), like there’s a fair bit of draft in there, but I like that. In his video what I mostly saw was calm, and I like calm too.
I like his face, I like his eye, I like the way he carries himself.
But, I defer to others (such as yourself) who have a lot of experience with mustangs and who are also putting up the money to actually buy them! Your opinion is what matters.
I also like 8403, but I did mean 8430. But I’m totally window-shopping and not plunking down any money.
I am pining away over 8695
Im happy you’re going for that guy!! He will be awesome
Fortunately for me that he’s young! SOme of those older guys have such developed such a fan-base that it means going up against the full coffers of some well endowed sanctuaries. And i’ve beenthere/donethat and it’s very frustrating. Just when you think you’ve dug deep enough, they raise more $ in an ‘emergency donation’ plea. grrrrrr. There is one ancient, decrepit one i think i’m going to bring home if i can discern who it is that has already bid. If it’s a sanctuary, i’ll let them have him. If it’s a meat-buyer i’ll get him. I sure do with BLM would put an end to those meat buyers. I always fear, when looking at the ones that got fattened up in holding for a year or so, that they’ll be heading straight to Mexico (or Canada). Not in this auction though…not with the Sand Wash Basin mustangs anyway. They have a huge following and none of those ladies are going to let them go like that without a fight.
I’m excited for you, and shall live vicariously through tales of your life with him.
OH…i could actually bore you to tears than…lol. I have many others i’m working on already…pick one and i’ll give some details: Steve, Fae, Rizada, Tovah, Sinnerman, Whisper, Ajax, Warlock, Tristan
Isn’t Ajax the big-boned, handsome, sort of gray one? What has been happening with that fellow?
Sinnerman? That sounds like a fun story…
Which one was the mare that people were debating whether her movement was off because she kind of bunny hopped with the back end before you got her home? I think? Maybe we saw video of her once she was a little settled and she had much freer movement? Am I thinking of the right horse?
What do you look for in the movement for horses that are freshly rounded up and in a tighter space than they’re used to and scared? Can you tell what they might be like, or do they change drastically once they’re used to being fenced in and not scared, and have hooves trimmed. I would imagine they improve quite a bit.
Ajax (my avatar on COTH) is a big varnish appaloosa colored mustang gelding. He is currently residing in my main working barn and has learned to be brushed, haltered and is learning how to pick up his gigantic feet. He also leads up to the mounting block, but i haven’t put a leg up over him yet. Actually, i should get a four-step block cause this three step won’t quite get me there without a little hop, and he’s not ready for THAT lol.
We had about a two month set back when i first put him in there. I FINALLY figured it out. Took me long enough! Steve is a dominant individual and picked on him …moved him off feeding stations, out of the nice cool fan…etc. And because Steve and i are so tight, he was thinking i was on Steve’s ‘side’. Once i put Steve out of sight whenever we worked together he was MUCH more willing/less wary. He is quite large, but only on the outside. Inside he is small. I think probably by Christmas i’ll be at least sitting on him bareback.
And…oh my…Sinnerman. He is top banana out there. All the mares hover around him when they come in season. He watches over them when the come down for a drink in the creek. As for he and me?? we may never be anything but armslength friends. He will allow me to approach him even out in the woods IF i do it correctly. He will eat from my hand too…but only if i do THAT correctly. Last year when we had him in the chute and box for vaccinations he jumped right through the front of the thing… a 3x4’ opening! He’s a roan and looks like a bay with pink body and black mane, legs, tail. Lovely to look at. He was in his teens when i bought him, and didn’t arrive for about a year (because BLM facility shut down for COVID). He comes when called, and is not dangerous…so i’m ok with him the way he is. I’ve more or less given up hope of riding him. He can live his life the way he wants. I need nothing from him and won’t take his feeling of wild if that’s what he wants.
Ahhhh TOVAH! She looked to be such a wildchild by her vid, but to me, i saw a teenage mare that was delighted in her body and her movement. Tail-up and free-floating, to me, was just a horse that felt good about herself. Now that she’s here she has become probably the most tame and curious and brave of them all. She hangs out watching when i’m working at the barn. She picks up tools… We train daily. I’m not quite happy with her give-to-pressure and we are so slow to get that piece of the puzzle locked into place. If i don’t call her to come (from pasture into the large barn for our training session) she will find me whereever i am and get as close as the pasture fencing allows and call ME. Food works for her, as do scratches. She has ‘bounce’. In that if she has spooked, or if i have gone too far too fast and she backs off, she comes right back. I have her standing at the mounting block and i’ve had my leg over her and have leaned over (my belly on her back). I love her. And i’m being careful. I want her to be my lower-half someday. I think we vibrate to the same wavelength. (i’m better with mares i think).
Are they still paying people to adopt feral horses? Has the BLM made any progress in keeping them out of the slaughter pipeline? It’s too bad, but when they announced that they would pay people 1K to take each BLM mustang (even though they have to wait a bit for the money) it was a cringe worthy moment.
