I don’t think it is a 4wd v. 2wd thing. I think it is an age of the truck and trailer thing. I only know this (or suspect this) because a friend of mine is currently shopping for a used gooseneck and the trailer dealer asked about the year of her truck because apparently the trend for trucks has been that they have gotten taller and a new one may be too tall for older goosenecks (not even really old based on the one that my friend was looking at). In investigating this, my friend and I measured a few of the trucks at the farm. Mine was 58 inches (2011), another 2011/2012 was 55 and hers was under 54 (a 2004). All of these trucks are 4wd (one of each major make). Also, these heights are the height to the top of the side of the bed/tailgate which is what I am assuming is the issue.
