My new Riverman Mare just started at 6 - Success Story

What a beautiful mare Judi, thank you for sharing her story with us.
Although I am very sad for her breeder and original owner, it does seem that the stars aligned for you and her.
I wish you much luck with her in the future.

I am also an admirer of Riverman - a beautiful horse with very talented offspring.
I got to visit with him a bit, and admire him in person when A Fine Romance was a Hilltop.[/QUOTE]

Thank you Fred. Her breeder is in Texas now and I’m told she takes great comfort in seeing her mare being given the chance to become the performance horse she was bred to be. I can definitely tell that if she had gone to a less patient owner who was looking for “Fast Results” it could have made her a very fearful horse. Since we’re letting her dictate the pace she seems to be looking forward to each new challenge rather than suspicious of it.

Re looking at the video I realize just how far she has come since January. I rode her this weekend and she now carries herself so nicely in a frame and her gates are so engaged and through her back. I’ll post video once i get it from the show.

We also have a wonderful Cowboy who is working with her to overcome the “spooky” part you see in the video. Next weekend they are going to be cutting cattle.

: )

Judi, what a great story and a beautiful mare!

I have a Riverman mare as well and I’m now a huge fan. I’ve heard they can be tempermental, but mine is super ammie-friendly (and her dam was kind of a, well, you know). Mine was also left to do nothing at her breeder’s for several years. She was started and ridden at 5/6 and then literally did nothing but turnout/stall for 4 years. I got her in Sept and essentially restarted her. She’s now quietly loping around 2’6-3’ hunter courses, with easy lead changes, and I’ve even done some low XC with her (she’s brave. I’m not). She’s my profile picture, if you’re interested.
Best of luck to you and your beautiful girl. I look forward to seeing more updates!

Congrats again, to you and your trainer for taking a big chance and doing such a nice job with such a lovely horse.

Oh… your mare is lovely and the fact that she didn’t start until 5/6 and you restarted her at 10 makes me wonder if they are more difficult at 3/4? Or did we just really luck out. I’m told that River’s dam was very sweet natured and all of her foals came out with a very sweet disposition… so perhaps we won the disposition lottery there. I do eventually want to breed her so I’ll be looking to this board for help with what the best fit is to make sure I keep that really sweet willingness and sound mind she possesses.

I absolutely love her - she is gorgeous. She might accidently end up in Canada.

She is b-e-a-u-t-i-ful!! What a wonderful story!!!
