Nashville Barns!

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to find a nice boarding facility close to Nashville, it seems everything is “farther out”. I was hoping to stay within 20 minutes or so from town… if possible! Looking for a place with nice, safe, facilities that bed well, and have good turnout space, good footing, etc. if there is a trainer on site, that’s a bonus, but not a requirement- as long as I can bring someone in for lessons!

Any insight is appreciated!

Nashville covers a bot of ground. What part of Nashville? Most barns are further out. If you’re talking downtown, I don’t think anything is drivable in 20 minutes.

Everything is father out. Period. End of sentence. Owning horses in Nashville generally means driving.

What part of town are you living/working in?

Just about all of the quality barns are in Williamson county or in the contiguous counties close to the Williamson county line.

There’s a lot of turnover in the area, but if you PM me places you are interested in or have already ruled out, I can give you some insight.

You’re getting some accurate advice here. Nothing will be a 20 minute drive; not even on a “good” traffic day. Which is a very rare day. Pick an area of Nashville to explore further and then move outwards on the map. If you don’t need a trainer on site, but want to bring someone in, that’s even trickier. Ask around to see if there are trainers who will come to the barn you might select.

When I worked in Nashville (really on the Brentwood outskirts), I lived 35 miles from my office and regularly faced a 3 hour drive home. Unfortunately, there are NO barns within 20 minutes of downtown. I agree with previous posters that you should pick a direction from downtown and then look for a barn that is within a REASONABLE (i.e. a LOT more than 20 minutes) drive from your work location.

You can’t even get from Green Hills to Downtown in 20 minutes most days. And with I-440 down to a single lane right now, getting around, you have to be creative. Nashville has experienced such tremendous growth in the past 20 years - the roads and available transportation, not so much.

What part of town do you plan to live in or are you already living there? There are several good places in Williamson County (Franklin area). There are a few places north of Nashville too. Really depends on your riding discipline, what your budget is, and just how far you’re willing to go for what you’re looking for. But one thing is for sure, no matter where you end up, you need to double (probably triple) that 20 min drive time!

Hi everyone,

I will be right near Vanderbilt University. Willing to drive to the right place (I commute 1.5 hours right now- so ideally something in the 40 minute range- if possible!!). A lot of the Barns I toured had very old and very tiny stalls… I’m hoping to find a better kept facility with good footing etc.

You might check out Walnut Trace if you haven’t done so already. That’s probably your closest bet, too. Also check out Tracebridge. Depending on where you’re coming from, the sticker shock of either of those places might put you in cardiac arrest, but they are two reputable names. In the neighborhood of Tracebridge, there are a ton of farms. Some of them are private, others offer boarding. I would literally just drive around and see what looks approachable. It’s been a few years since my horses lived in that area and farms there change hands quite a bit, so what was good then may not still be good or even in existence.
