When ? Where ?
One of our local farms that hosts schooling shows went, and she seemed to have a blast. I had never heard of it before!
It was last weekend at WEC Ohio.
I know a few people who have gone and have heard it’s really well done and fun.
One day it will be on my list, but several of my friends go every year and it’s always one of their top shows (especially if you have a pony or small horse)
I usually go to spectate but had other commitments this year. This show has a great vibe - wonderful location, innovative organizer, and a whole lot of people just having a good time. I recommend it - to attend with or without a horse/pony.
My trainer and one of her clients went, as did several other people I know. They all love it! I believe there were more than 300 horses and ponies there. They also do breed classes. My trainer’s young mare was breed grand champion!
It was over 400, per the organizer! I’ve both competed and spectated NDPC over the years, and I really recommend going. It’s unlike any other rated show I’ve been to, with so many different trophies, ribbons and awards, lots of big raffle prizes, interviews with competitors posted to social media, and just generally making every single person there feel like a rock star even if they’re an adult ammy on a 13hh pony doing Intro. I’m a pony person, so I love it from that perspective, but it’s just so fun to see people enjoying themselves the way they do at NDPC, and it’s an exceptionally well-run show.
I went this year as a spectator and to help out a friend, last year as a competitor (small horse stayed home this year). It definitely felt more organized than last year’s show, but they still had multiple rings running a ride or two behind, and were way behind on scoring for overall championships. They also need to solve the indoor warmup problem since the one warmup ring is a bit too small for the amount of horses in it at one time. Since they were using the full capabilities of HorseShowOffice this year, scoring was out much faster. And Finals will now be held at this venue, so there were a lot more “big” horses this year at the entire show to get their horses familiarized with the venue. Overall it’s a fun show to be at, and for those of us with ponies and small horses, it’s nice to show apples to apples rather than apples to oranges.
I’ve done the NDPC classes at a recognized show and loved it. I’d love to go to the actual big show sometime, I thiiiink my new guy is still short enough to be a small horse.
