We ultrasounded and injected the neck on Monday. There were boney changes at C4-7 on the right and C6-7 on the left. The vet didn’t mention arthritis by name, but I can’t imagine there would be any other reason for boney changes in a horse this age. Vet also didn’t voice any concern with horse returning to work. It was semi-validating to know that there were in fact changes that could explain some, or even all, of the behavior and other issues the horse has been having/ presenting. Horse is feeling better from having hocks done (so THAT’S what it feels like when you push from behind?! Okay!) and it sounds like we will see the results from the neck injections in 2-5 weeks. Horse has been mostly out of work due to my not wanting to perpetuate any issues/ work the horse while they weren’t feeling 100% so we have some fitness building to do before we go back to jumping. I’ll try to remember to report back here once we get to that point.
Can I ask what happened with your horse? I’m in similar position; not joints, some neuro signs, some concern over neck ultrasound - C6 looks funny, some signs of inflammation. Was upper level dressage - ready to show GP. Gets very muscle tired, takes days to recover. Not himself generally. Struggling with whether or not to do CT scan, but planning tests for EPM and MFM. Other tests negative so far…
Hi,
What ended up happening with your horse? Mine has similar issues that 7k later are no better but not one vet has suggested neck.
