There are two shows on August 4th that I want to go to, but I can only be in one place at a time, booooo. The first one is the local stock horse club’s show. We would be showing W/T as we don’t have a lope that would even get a second glance from the judge. I need to brush her up a little bit on a few things, but we would be totally fine showing w/t and I feel that we would be competitive in that division. This show is a hour away.
The second show is a speed show. Skye knows the patterns, and from what I gather one of her former owners may have actually run her. I have only done the patterns at a walk or trot with her to take a break from schooling other things. I am going to try and see if we can manage to do them at a canter, but its been at least four years since she last actually ran them. So we wouldn’t be very competitive as the divisions are done by age, not by ability. This show is 10 minutes away from where I board.
Some of the factors that have me conflicted, ALL of my friends show at the saddle club, but to be honest its not really my scene. If we hadn’t had such a heat wave and Skye hadn’t been injured I would be doing a ranch horse show that weekend without any second thoughts. That is much more my idea of a good time, without all the glitz and glam. My truck is taking a lot longer than expected to get fixed, so this could very well be the first time that I am trailering (I have trailer boats, but never a horse) anywhere, and it will be the first time I will be hauling to a show alone. I won’t know anybody at the speed show, but I have met both of the owners of the property and they are both very nice. In the long run I want to be doing ranch horse and maybe speed stuff with Skye, not so much the stock horse stuff. She has an awesome jog, but when she lopes she is going places, not anything like the real western pleasure horses, so we will probably never be competitive outside of walk/jog/trot at those shows. August 4th is the last speed show of the season in my area, there is one more of the saddle club shows this year.
