I have had my horse in the Nathe Loose ring snaffle ($75-85) for over 4 years… Same bit and he loves it… To me it is worth it if they like it… We are going to try a Nathe full cheek when my daughter starts jumping him.

Definitely look into Neue Schule. I would highly suggest the verbindend. Yes its pricey but I promise worth every penny. In a light bit my horse would just lean on me and had no breaks and in a stronger bit would fight me. I had a different horse my first ride in the verbindend. It says “Promoting self carriage and throughness, a true outine and freedom through the shoulder can be developed. The verbindend has consistently helped eradicate tongue evasions, encouraging the horse to soften and relax through the jaw. The cleverly curved mouthpiece can also enhance the development of the bend for lateral work and smaller circles.” I also think the salox metal they use makes a big difference. It heats up very quickly in the mouth and is a soft metal so if the horse bites down onto it the bit dampens the impact rather than the horses teeth absorbing it.

You could also take a regular, metal bit and wrap it a couple of times with latex wrap, that might give your horse the softer feel she likes. Latex rolls are cheap, most tack shops carry them and you can “convert” metal bits into rubber without having so much give as the completely rubber ones.

I looked at Neue Schule in the past and was turned off on their price, however I may give them a try if I can find one used for a good price. The idea of spending $100+ on a bit that I don’t know if it will work or not is not super appealing. I am a little confused on their sizing. I am assuming that they are referring to how big around the bit is. Any thoughts on what thickness I should go with? I really have no clue.

Also, how does Neue Schule compare to the Herm Sprenger novocontact?

I would go with the NS. You can rent it from Dressage Extensions, at link

there are two measurements, the 12.0 is the thickness across the bit at the cheek
, you cannot go below 10mm in dressage, so this is legal. The ring diameter is explanatory, bradoons have a smaller ring, which you dont want.

these tongue relief bits can be a lifesaver for many horses.

I think I figured it out. My Happy Mouth is a 20mm thickness, so I think going with the 16mm thickness would be my best bet.

NO LATEX ALLOWED per DR121

No worries, I was aware of that. I would love to be able to doctor up my happy mouth with latex to be able to keep using it.

They refused to replace it. They said the damage to my bit was normal wear and tear and sorry about my luck.

Why not post a photo of the damaged bit?

If you are right shame on them!

If you are misunderstanding the damage perhaps there is something to be learned.
