Thank you for sharing this with us. Did vets ever come back around to polyneuritis as a potential diagnosis?
If I’m thinking of the same horse (5 YO chestnut gelding, former owner died tragically), it’s one of those times I wish I had $$$$ for two. I have no business getting a 5 YO, but…
Yes, that’s the one. Super sad situation but he sounds like a solid boy that could be fabulous in a short order.
Thank you for taking the time to come back and share the necropsy report. It still remains a mystery as to what truly ailed poor Jasper. Yet overall, if I’m reading it correctly, he did have some chronic, if low grade, health issues. He was a poor soul and you were his saving angel that gave him a good life if only for a brief period.
Morgans are truly lovely animals. The only Morgan farm/stable/trainer I’m personally familiar with is Gerry Rushton near Riverside, Calif. They usually only have either babies or proven show horses for sale, but you never know what they might have that’s close to being retired.
Good luck on your search. The right horse is out there, just for you!
I just got back from watching Westwind Otto! He is a beautiful horse. I think I checked with them already, but will check again. Thanks for the suggestion.
Hi. I am in all (I think) the Morgan groups. I did see the one in Maine and messaged the owner. After talking with her, we agreed her horse wasn’t a good fit for me. The search continues.
They never said specifically if polyneuritis was a possibility or if they ruled it out.
In person? Lucky! We watched the live stream from Maine!
Are you looking for another gelding or open to mares? And sounds like you’re willing to ship? Maybe you want to start a Morgan shopping thread so all us crazy Morgan people can shop along with you!
Have you contacted Colleen StLoup? She founded Morgan Safenet, a rescue group, but also has her own barn and training and lesson program. If nothing else, she has a large network of Morgan people who might know someone who has what you’re looking for.
Yes! I have contacted her and I completed an app for their rescue a few months ago. I keep checking to see if they have something that fits what I am looking for
I prefer a gelding but am considering mares as well. I am willing to ship. Where would I post an ISO of post in the forum? Specifically, under what category/section do people typically post ISO threads?
Here in California, there is a wild herd that we believe is descended from Morgans. They have done some DNA testing and they believe there was a breeder (Roland Hill) who owned the Morgans these horses descended from. They range from 14 to 15 hands - most in the 14.2 range. They have truly incredible minds and excel in many disciplines. There’s a young lady who is jumping and doing well on the A circuit here, many many trail horses (they are very sure footed and level headed), dressage, driving and they are very cowy. Diana Palmer is the caretaker. She often knows of broke horses that are in need of rehoming or you can adopt a wild one from the herd. They are really more feral than “wild”. They are used to humans bringing alfalfa and many will let you touch them. I brought home an 8 month old filly last spring and had a hand on her in about an hour and a halter on her in about a day. Super good minded. Here is the group FB page- (1) Friends of Oak Creek Horses | Groups | Facebook…

This is my filly:
I just read an article about this herd of Morgans. So interesting. Thanks for sharing. Your filly is beautiful.
When I was in college in the late 1980s, I worked for renowned Morgan breeder Margaret Gardiner of Kennebec Morgan Farm. I remember her talking about Roland Hill and his Morgans.
If you are looking at Morgans, I can only encourage. My beloved 29ish yo gelding is most likely pure Morgan based on all his physical characteristics and his medical dx, but he was auction-bought so no papers. However he has been called Morgan by Morgan people, looks like a Morgan, and god love him he is a solid and good boi like most Morgans.
Hi everyone! My horse search has come to a happy conclusion. I didn’t end up with a Morgan gelding, instead I found a lovely Andalusian mare. She has a great mind, loves people, is sweet, smart and kind. Meet Rissy.
P.S. I am so glad I didn’t give up on being a horse owner.
Congratulations! May you two have a long, healthy, and happy relationship. You deserve it!
Lovely!
Looooove her! Welcome to the grey horse club!!
