Too bad then, scratch her. She is saying loud and clear it’s a bad idea.
Do you care more about the horse or the money?
Before you were told what?
Keep the mare at home for both your sakes. You say here
You’re likely going to make a fool of yourself if you go, potentially injure yourself or your mare, and set your mare back even more if its behavioral. If its health related, you’re going to make everything worse and still potentially get hurt or hurt the horse, and you can kiss any sort of trust with your horse out the window.
You aren’t going to diagnose, treat, and see if it makes a difference in a few days. You’re also not going to overcome training issues in the matter of a week.
SLOW. DOWN.
I love your input for the last 5 of our rides I’ve been riding her very lightly, I’ve gone to a low port gag bit because there is no tongue pressure, I’ve lowered her grain intake and stopped her supplements, and all of our rides have been focused on being calm and relaxed! She’s done so good she’s like a totally different horse. My guess is that not only was our pasture grass a little too much for her but also I was overfeeding her and our rides were just a little too stressful. We are just walking and trotting and also doing a lot more groundwork. A big thing I noticed was all of these problems were brought on by me. I was putting too much thought into competing and what I was feeding and just all of it. She is also starting to come up to me in the pasture instead of running away. Whoever reads this may get mad but I am still bringing her to Texas. I know for sure I am running my 16 yo gelding and there is three days of exbos which will all be focused on keeping her relaxed. If she shows any sign of anxiety then she’ll be scratched, but for now we are just going to see how exbos go. I don’t think it was really the barrels making this happen I think it was just the thought of me working her hard and punishing her for acting up after I was the one making her do that. It’s better to prevent the problem than fix the problem by keeping our rides short and happy!
Obviously the horse that’s why I said I would scratch her? I’m not going to Texas just to run her I have another horse I’m running. She was only really going for the experience.
I was reading this and fully prepared to respond with a “Good for you! You’re figuring it out!”
And then I read this…
You are 1,000% right and that’s why I’m most likely scratching her depending on her exbos. They always have a vet there and that’s a perfect opportunity for us to get her checked out. Yall don’t understand I am going o the race no matter what because I am running my other gelding. She was only going for the experience it’s not like I was going to try and win the whole thing it would probably barely have been a cruise through. I don’t wip her, I don’t use spurs. Like I said I’m 99% sure all of these problems were brought on by me and I’m getting to the bottom of it one ride at a time stop jumping at my throat yall I get it
I’m probably not running her like I said she’s probably just going for exbos there’s no way to tell until we get there
“Probably not”?
In other words, “maybe”.
.
IMHO, you’ve taken one tiny step forward, and now you’re prepared to take a leap backwards.
Why?
What’s the rush?
.
As a kickass ODG said, “When training his horse, the rider must repeat over and over again, “I have time.” ~ Alois Podhajsky
She’s all cow bred but her diet now after I changed it is 1 scoop of omolene 200 and a little scoop of raspberry leaves plus alfalfa mix hay and grass when I turn her out. She’s 5
You are not listening to me. We are not going to Texas for HER we were going to my main gelding. She was just a tag along that we were taking for the EXPERIENCE. I was NOT actually going to full on run her. I never should have made this post and just figured it out on my own like I am anyways. I have never full on ran her or pushed her and most of her anxiety is not just on barrels. It was in general. For the third time, these problems WERE BROUGHT ON BE ME. Yall just leave me alone
It’s doesn’t matter if you were going to run her or not. She’s not at a good place mentally and potentially physically, to deal with the stress without more setbacks. We are listening. You are making decisions purely off your own ego and not your horses welfare.
Yes, and yet you have every appearance of being hell bent on perpetuating them.
I am listening to you, and what you propose is not at all likely to be a positive experience for this mare.
I know what I did wrong. I am going NO MATTER WHAT because I am NOT RUNNING HER I am RUNNING MY OTHER HORSE. Just because I have a different horse that I have pre entered and know that I am 100% running him does not mean i basically abuse the other horse by just bringing her. Yall she does NOT have ulcers, I have ruled out any pain. The grain I barely give to her literally has gastric support. She was so stressed out because of how I was riding. But I do not ride like that anymore. I don’t know how many times I have to say this but she was supposed to only be doing exbos. I am scratching her just to make yall happy and because I get the point my horse is not mentally ready and she is going to totally kill both of us and it will be all my fault. She totally is still bucking and being crazy and I totally didn’t just jump her bridleless yesterday. I am going to keep stressing her out by making sure she is calm and relaxed. I don’t even care what any of you have to say in the end it’s my horse and it was my decision to come on here and make myself sound like a total idiot. The problem really wasn’t as bad as I made it sound but you guys always find smth to say. Bye.
about the nosebleeds they have a really good vet there at the race which would be the perfect opportunity for us to get her checked out. They are mainly there for helping people with eiph
It’s my understanding when one expo’s a barrel horse, it is still running barrels…just not at a competitive speed. It’s great you are recognizing the problems you created. And I understand you want to take your gelding. Invest in your mare’s future here and leave her home until calm and relaxed is your go to. Good luck w your gelding!
Yeah an expo is just practice so I usually walk or trot mine. Thank you so much!!
The environment is still not great for a horse who is verging on explosive not even a week ago… bad idea…
Sorry Canchaser2009, but you did ask for help, everyone tried to give you the best advice they could without actually seeing your horse and you together.
Does not work that way. Once you get quoted, as you were and are again now, you cannot erase it. Plus this is our community where we try to give honest answers and if you do not want to hear the advice of those more experienced then you, it is up to you to leave us alone and just do not come on here.
BTW if you think we always agree with each other…boy would you be wrong with that. But people did agree with the best choice in your situation, take it or leave it, it is your horse.
