New better fly trap:

Gnats? Gnats you say?

My flies aren’t bad (yet, surely…I use fly predators, but I have no doubt they’re still coming, sigh) but the gnats are AWFUL. Just terrible.

How do you position this thing for maximum gnat catching? I’m willing to buy a bunch if it will make a dent in the little blood suckers!

I live in the woods, near the ocean, and have a huge problem with deer flies, green heads and horse flies in general. I bought a Horse Pal fly trap last year and it did a great job. I put it up last week and already have a handful of deer flies in there. I’ve had Knight Sticks and did not find that they caught deer flies. They did catch small songbirds, which I didn’t like at all, so I don’t use them anymore. Just fly predators, fly tape in the barn, and the Horse Pal.

Be aware that your metered fly spray system will kill your predators too. That might some what limit their effectiveness.

Any new updates? I just got mine and trying to figure out where to put it. It shows them on the ground outside a stall, but I am afraid dust, baby quail, and lizards might end up on it… so I found it fit inside a small birdcage I have, without the knight head. Is the knight head part of the attractant color?

Is there any value to hanging these? I didn’t see any photos of one being hung.

Thanks in advance – I will report back too

I have tried them all. I have been using Knightstick now for a years, and before that I used the olson trap. It’s a good trap , but the Knightstick catches much faster and is portable. It seems like the sound the flies make when beating there wings trying to get away is amplified by the tube that brings other flies in to see whats happening.

Anyone else with updates on this? Despite my fly predator use, I have lots of black flies around the barn, especially in my stalls and right at my dutch doors. This seems like a good trap for this area until I figure out how to not get them in the first place.

They seem to attract flies very well and fill up fast. I have three now, both in the aisle and outside the barn, and I could probably replace sheets every 3 days if I could stomach the expense. (I guess it’s not a LOT per sheet but the best price is for 30 sheets at a time and I don’t feel like spending $100+ on fly sheet refills at the moment.)

I am skeptical that any trap can make a palpable difference in fly population. There always seem to be more. But it is satisfying to see them trapped there, unable to bite or reproduce.

My friend asked me about stinky traps. I stopped using them years ago. If you can the smell, dump them on the ground far away from everything wait a couple of days and check them out and you will find that 90% of the flies are garbage flies.

I started using the Knight Stick this year and it is the only outdoor trap that works. I love looking at the thousands of stable flies that I have trapped. It is the icing on my fly management program and it is such a relief to be managing these creatures. I have days that my horses will walk outside the barn of their own free will.
If you buy one you will know in twenty four hours that you will want more. i have four for two horses. If there is a particular outbreak you can move the Knight 'Stick to that area and watch the stable flies line up to jump on. It’s amazing.
Zoos have been the main users of this patented technology. It has been tested and published by Dr. Jerry Hogsette of the USDA in Florida. This man is the expert on Stomoxys Calcitrans.
When you are looking at products you want to make sure it is for the stable fly. You will find that there aren’t any successful outdoor products that attract and kill these creature.
The fly parasites do not lay their eggs in stable fly larvae so we are wasting our money.
You won’t be sorry you tried this!!!

Blue Drifter how is it going with your Knight Sticks? The Knight Stick is designed to be used on the ground and outdoors. The UV light is part of the activation process for attracting the flies. The horse head is mainly so we can move it around without getting sticky. Don’t worry about other critters getting stuck. Should it happen a little olive oil will cut the sticky glue. Please update your success!

Well, poo. I bought a Knight stick, and it is catching no more flies than anything else sticky! The stink baits are catching far more…

Mine was a fail also!
I bought 2, set them up per instructions and they did catch flies the first day, but since then NADA!
Wish they had a money back guarantee or at leat a way to give feedback on their website.
I spent $70 on those and am thoroughly disappointed.

Hi Bearcat,

If your interested in selling KS at a good price let me know, and if you bought replacement wraps, I would like to buy them also.

Hi Bearcat,

I just placed an order with Bugjammer for the Knightstick wraps, and they have a 90 day guarantee. If you hurry you can still get your money back…

I have to say, my Knight Sticks are the best bug catchers I’ve ever used! I’m using six of them in the barn and just bought one for the garage. You need to place them properly, but I can put new sheet on one and 10 minutes later I’ve caught a dozen flies and gnats. The sheets need changing in a couple of days, that’s how many bugs they catch. I’m not sure why they don’t work for some people except for placement… I tried one inside my barn down the aisle with little success, but as soon as I place it up by the door the bugs just flocked to it.

Hi downen,

Your right I ran into the same problem. I think it’s needs a certain amount of sun light to work properly. I think Bugjammer needs to add this to there instructions…
