New Book Series "The A Circuit" by Georgina Bloomberg

This makes Twilight look like Walden.
Best post of the day!

That sample was awful

So glad to see the Jill and Eventers Trilogy books get a mention, they were always my favourites.

A Bit of Britain probably carries it as I think it’s an eventing bridle since it has round brass buckles and it doesn’t use hook & eye bit attachments on the cheek pieces.
Actually, it looks like a european, in hand showing bridle (notice how the cavason is attached to the bit cheek pieces).

Like This

Or used Here and Here

Which makes it even more ridiculous that this bridle was used for the cover of a “A” hunter jumper… They don’t even USE bridles like this in the US! Unless you are showing a Welsh Pony, or some other UK breed in hand.

Agreed. I’m 16 and going to the bookstore is sometimes shockingly atrocious! I generally steal my parents books  I just finished “Shadow Divers,” about deep-sea divers who discover a German U-Boat, and it was fantastic.
That sounds like it would be a fascinating book!

I read the sample. I’d read the rest also. The writing is nothing to write home about, but except for a few obvious brand-dropping and weird thesaurus word swaps, it was pretty readable.

I looked on BoB but didn’t see it. It looks a lot like my Kieffer Carmen bridle, but w/ a standard cavesson as opposed to a figure-8. obviously not a Kieffer though.
I really love the style of the Carmen and I’ve wanted a plain cavesson(or another bridle w/ a plain cavesson) w/ similar large round gold-coloured buckles. I haven’t seen any other than on this cheesy book cover, though. As far as I know, Kieffer doesn’t makes any other bridles w/ that awesome hardware.

To me, the picture isn’t enough to be able tell of the cheek pieces are attached to the cavesson. I certainly hope not though. I really want that bridle!

I’m 99% sure that this is the bridle.

Ding ding ding, Wow, you did find the exact same one!

As I mentioned above, this is a UK showing in hand bridle, NOT an eventing bridle (Event bridles have a seperate hanger for the bit vs. cavason, just like a “normal” bridle, while these in hand bridles have the cavason ATTACHED to the bit cheek pieces).

Awesome. I can’t wait till some pony kid shows up with one of these and informs her shocked trainer, with utter conviction, that this is what they lead their horses around with on the A Circuit.

With the lead rein clipped to the cheekpiece, no less…:lol:

(I shouldn’t admit this and make everyone think I’m a Google ninja, but it wasn’t that hard to find the bridle. I just typed ‘in hand bridles’ into Google and clicked on the pics. Found the one with the blue button and that was that.:lol:)

But you are a Google ninja!!! LOL

“As Georgina gazes into Dobbin’s eyes, he dreams of his handlers delicate feet. Desperately urging to stomp on those cream colored strap-ie sandals with his size four shoe adorned with bling that is so popular in the Hunter ring today… As Dobbin thinks how lovely those feet go with her matching cream dress and her fresh peticure he quickly swipes his green gooey nose across the back of her scarf as a distraction.”

She does hail from the land of Gossip girl and Cecily Von Zeigesar…as a New Yorker, I was always surprised that equestrian endeavors weren’t more heavily featured in those books. They are, done badly, a fixture in the real-life Upper East side scene. I feel like Blair should have donned some der daus and hit up the Classic at least once a book. Maybe Georgina was with me on that one and decided to take it upon herself to remedy that oversight!
I’ll probably read it if I come across it at Chapters. Other than that, I barely made it through the sample pages. The horrendous product placement drove me mad. It seems like Georgina is trying to write a book about herself. Incredibly annoying.
Ohey Karly (;

Don’t you know? Undoing your polo to show off your “two best assets” is the only way to catch a man! Who cares if he says he has a girlfriend? He’s wearing Abercrombie! Be careful, though, catty girls wear Charles Owens helmets and nice girls wear GPAs.

This was said in the book? I couldn’t get the link to work…

Regardless of whether it is crap or not, I’ll read it. My hope is that it will be popular and will encourage more riders to write. Then maybe one day we will get some really GOOD equine literature.
same here!

I think people are missing the idea of author vs. speaker. Its four POVs, right? So one speaker could be the stereotypical arrogant b**** and not representative of GB. Whereas another more sympathetic character might be. I’m interested to see how well she portrays the POV of the SO.

Its horribly written, no doubt. But you need to distinguish between what the character is thinking, and what Georgina Bloomberg would think (and hey, maybe they are exactly same. But not all four POVs are going to be her.)

There actually WAS a rider in the Gossip Girl books… Georgina Sparks, whose father was, I believe, the mayor of New York City or some other head honcho… she was a competitive rider but had to quit after she started taking horse tranquilizers as a drug. Nate meets her at rehab and they have a fling, at least to the best of my memory (probably shameful enough that I remember all that ) I remember even at the time thinking that the parallels to Georgina Bloomberg were striking (not the drug part, obv.)

That’s the only link I could find referencing it, which I find surprising-- can’t find much about it on the Internet. I remember it vividly in the book, though.

It’s ok, at least you have an “excuse.” PS… horsey middle schoolers would LOVE the “Jill” series by Ruby Ferguson for better quality reading. According to wikipedia, even the Queen Mother agreed! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruby_Ferguson. They are British and I believe are out of print, but you can probably find them on amazon/ebay. I have an entire set somewhere that my aunt gave me when I was about 11/12. They are actually well written and Jill gets up to some real adventures, such as backing wild new forest ponies and going on a week long pony trek! They are great and really “old school” british, a lot like Enid Blyton except with horses, what could be better?!
The purpose of this book is revealed at last- to inspire this thread so that we could all learn about these books, which are clearly better in every way!
