I ask because it seems common in todays boarding to only get a certain amount of hay and if more is needed the owner must provide it or pay extra.

Sorry that’s on me, tone can be hard to tell over text! My barn is very generous with hay - they get free choice in feeders in turn out, and then free choice in hay nets in their stall. They offer a lot of grain options of various kinds and price points, and its only grain overages that people have to pay for. I do think part of that is that my barn has a very wide variety, from competition horses in a heavier workload to retired horses to young off the track TBs. So the grain needs vary widely. I’m also in an area where board is pretty inexpensive, so even though I’m at a full care and very lovely facility, board is under $1000. I would not be able to afford this caliber of facility and care in other parts of the country for sure.
I know , I guess I should have said it differently— but that would be an easy way to keep track of additional hay fed.
I am glad to hear of someone’s horse getting all the hay they need.
