Good question mbm.
i am thinking of the California HAN Assoc - they have a web page, a really great FB presence, etc etc.
there are also many other “society’s” out there that promote, as they wish - their breed of choice…
so?
I am on the Internet Committee for another Breed Registry and can honestly say its difficult to meet everyones needs and desires on how things ‘should be’ (especially when a site is being overhauled)–I think the site itself looks great. Im sure additional content will be added as time permits.I do like the concept very much.

I respectfully disagree with you goodpony. I don’t think we are all that much talking about design; we are talking about content. The NA content should take precedence over any German content on the NA website. It’s pretty basic. The German have their own website! They don’t need another, NA-based one. At least, my membership fees are for services for NA members.
Not that there souldn’t be any news about what’s happening in Germany; but for instance, when I click on “Sales”, I should see a bunch of NA-breds for sale, not just information on the Vechta Auctions…
I understand it’s a work in progress, but I feel they have started the wrong way around.
EM-Bravo…well said!
I dont think we are that far apart in our thinking EM–only just pointing out that it appears the site is undergoing an overhaul and that additional content is likely to appear in due course. I fully agree that the focus of the NA site should be primarily NA content.
I didn’t think otherwise goodpony.
I’ll try to have a chat about it with Holly when she comes to our inspection in August. First and foremost, I’ll try to have an actual name for the person in charge!
The person making all of the decisions about the website over the past year is Heiner Kanowski. You can find his contact information here: http://oldenburger-pferde.net/de/zucht/kontakt/das-team/artikelliste.html
Thanks for the support Hluing. I miss working with you all.

We miss you too, Stephanie!
And yes, Herr Kanowski makes the decisions these days on many things. Unfortunately, he doesn’t really understand NA issues very well - his philosophy is that if things are done a certain way in Germany, they should be done that way in NA. It is one of the drawbacks of working with a German-based registry. :sigh:
I think Emily will be handling website stuff from now on?

I think she is getting change request sent on to Germany, but I believe Heiner Kanowski and Saskia Albrecht are “managing” the website. It is my understanding they are essentially the official “voice” for the Verband, so I can understand them wanting to oversee websites, magazines, press releases, etc.
My employer has a Corporate Communications group that acts in the same capacity, and I think many large businesses operate in a similar fashion these days.
Well, as for mbm question regarding promoting GOV in NA via a sort of Club… Why wouldn’t it be possible? I am wondering this as well. That kind of Club or organisation would be there to support NA GOV breeders and promote GOV events in USA and Canada… ?? Just dropping the idea in the air.

Good question, and I have often wondered the same thing. Might be worth floating the idea to TPTB, however, like any project, it would require someone with vision and time and skills to organize it and manage it.
I don’t think the club idea is reasonable because we pay large sums of money to these organizations and get very little service. Having them ruin our website…and I strongly feel that is what they did…is a slap in the face! They need to provide better service or more breeders may be walking away.
I agree with hluing–we paid our activation fee and our stallion is missing from the ebook–but its not just mine missing, I notice another stallion absent (could be more). We have been long time members in good standing–so not sure what gives.
Why a Club like this should be expensive tell me? We are working on putting up one in Quebec as there’s french base of Oldenburg breeders MEMBERS (and who cares to translate for us tell me heh) and except putting a website up for ads and information sharing… what would be the other costs involved?? We tought about a BIG 10$/year subscription… Less than an ad with picture for a month on most of the big sale websites…
have you folks directed your concerns to those in charge?
as for my comment about a group - it doesn’t need to be associated with the registry at all ?
i have seen many similar groups for breeders all over the place - they are just folks with a common thing pooling resources to promote that thing - be it ponies, Oldenburgs, HANs, or it could be location, etc…
The California Hanoverian society is one, the midwest breeders group is another… i am sure there are many more?
Thanks Down Yonder.
Having managed the website & Facebook page, and written or translated most of the material for the magazine, I can tell you that it is a LOT of work per month. It will cost a lot to keep it up on that level, and make sure that the graphics and software for the website is updated every year.
You would for sure have to get approval from Vechta since the logo, name, etc. of Oldenburg would be used for any club. I really have no idea how they would feel about that, but my guess is they would not go for it given the past problems they have had with separate Oldenburg groups in NA. I could be wrong though.
