OP asked about inexpensive ways to source nice horses. I don’t think there is anything inexpensive about raising babies. You take the ‘normal’ horse risks and multiply them by two. And then you still have years of feeding a horse you can’t ride.

I agree with this - the risk is huge. Instead of buying a baby, save money for 2-3 years (or however long you’d be boarding a baby until rideable) and buy a started horse with that money. I bought a 5 month old and he was PTS at 7. Huge, painful fail.
