I have no idea what she may be, but she sure is cute!
This is a HOOT!
I asked Dr. Google what’s the most popular breeds of Mexican street dogs. Ready???
The Mexican street dog carries not a pool but an ocean of genes, swirling currents mixing morphological characteristics of terrier, labrador, spaniel, poodle, German shepherd, pit bull, boxer, cattle dog, doberman, dachshund, basenji, beagle, huskie, ridgeback , and, yes, vizsla.
Surprisingly some of the shown dogs look quite similar to your little dog. Except your cutie has
a more terrier like head and face. But the bodies are similar.
thought this would give you a heads up. lol.
Lots of shepherd and pit mixes coming thru the rescue I fostered for, along with assumed husky crosses with blue eyes. Quite a few poodle/spaniel/terrier looking crosses as well. Haven’t seen anything with a ridgeback. Definitely no obvious basenjis or vizsla! Lol. Many, many chihuahuas, especially crossed with dachshund. They’ve had several recently that look like Kelpies, but I’m guessing it’s just a chihuahua mixed with something funny that’s creating that appearance. Hilarious ears on a lot of those Chi mixes.
Quite a few of the puppies they’ve gotten in have curly-q tails. Never seen so many before until fostering with this group. There is a strong genetic current running thru that area of Mexico for the curly tail. Maybe that’s the random basenji influence. I’m not a fan of that at all so I passed on a couple of puppies previously that had the scruffy Jack look I like because I couldn’t get past those tails!
My terrier brained mutt came back as golden, chihuahua, Jack russel terrier and shitzhu. She has the fluff and cuddly ness of the golden but her brain acts 100% terrier. I’m super curious to see your results! She’s the white dog on the left
This is the same exact genetic variant my previous dog had (she was 10% dachshund, 9.5% cocker spaniel).
Mika does not have risk from most of the genetic variants that we test for, however she does have genetic variants associated with the following health condition: Chondrodystrophy and Intervertebral Disc Disease, CDDY/IVDD, Type I IVDD.
Mika has one copy of an FGF4 retrogene on chromosome 12. In some breeds such as Beagles, Cocker Spaniels, and Dachshunds (among others) this variant is found in nearly all dogs. While those breeds are known to have an elevated risk of IVDD, many dogs in those breeds never develop IVDD. For mixed breed dogs and purebreds of other breeds where this variant is not as common, risk for Type I IVDD is greater for individuals with this variant than for similar dogs.
What is Chondrodystrophy and Intervertebral Disc Disease, CDDY/IVDD, Type I IVDD?
Type I Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD) is a back/spine issue that refers to a health condition affecting the discs that act as cushions between vertebrae. With Type I IVDD, affected dogs can have a disc event where it ruptures or herniates towards the spinal cord. This pressure on the spinal cord causes neurologic signs which can range from a wobbly gait to impairment of movement. Chondrodystrophy (CDDY) refers to the relative proportion between a dog’s legs and body, wherein the legs are shorter and the body longer. There are multiple different variants that can cause a markedly chondrodystrophic appearance as observed in Dachshunds and Corgis. However, this particular variant is the only one known to also increase the risk for IVDD.
She’s a cutie! And so is her companion.
All dogs can pace; so I wouldn’t use that as any determining factor. Packing is usually a sign of either moving at a slower speed than their natural trot speed, but it can also just be an awkward stage of growth.
I would guess terrier mix x terrier mix…border terrier, cairn terrier, russell terrier…etc. I think most mixed breeds are the product of other mixed breed dogs, and could have been that way for generations. I don’t see any lab in this dog and the size sounds much too small, but possibly some mix of something smaller with a lab somewhere back in the pedigree…e.g. chi mix x lab mix.
Drumroll please……
Mika is-
35.7% Poodle (small).
16.5% American Pit Bull Terrier. 10.1% Cocker Spaniel.
7.6% German Shepherd.
30.1% Supermutt.
Parents are mixes.
Grandparent 1- cocker-poo
Grandparent 2- German Shepherd mix
Grandparent 3- poodle (small) mix
Grandparent 4- pit bull mix
Great grandparents on one side-poodle, cocker spaniel, German shep mix & a super mutt.
Great grandparents on other side- poodle, poodle, pit bull & a super mutt.
She’s definitely one of a kind!
German Shepherd and Pit Bull? I’m rolling on the floor at this~~
But just as I predicted a mixed bag of a bunch of breeds. But think of the best of each breed and maybe that’s what she’ll be.
I LOVE big ears!!! If I do rescue again (leaning towards a purebred after having two rescues with brain tumors), I’ll definitely try Embark.
I’m glad some actual breeds came back rather than being 100% supermutt. Makes it much more fun, especially when you can imagine how hilarious a poodle/pit and German Shepherd/cocker-poo must look like.
I would suspect she will be super super smart. With so much poodle she may have the poodle brain. And so trainable with the German Shepherd percentage.
She’ll be fun to watch as she has so much intermingled in her potential behavioral traits.
What we do know is that she’s probably one of a kind! I think she’ll be a splendid dog for you.
She certainly is unique. I have never seen a dog with a mullet.
Yep, another poodle terrier! While I think Embark’s percentages are very reliable, take their family tree with a grain of salt. I think it’s a best guess based on making the percents line up neatly from two parents. My dog was tested, as were two of her littermates. One of her littermates has 10% ACD where the other two have none, but have 9% supermutt. Their family trees are different, since they had to find a place to stick the ACD on his chart, which shuffled some things around. Actually, I just looked and all three have different grandparent mixes:
My dog’s grandparents: 1. GSD, 2. Pit bull 3. Bloodhound/Lab 4. GSD/Bluetick coonhound
brother with a 47% match: 1. bloodhound/pit bull 2. ACD/Lab 3. GSD 4. GSD/Bluetick coonhound
sister with 59% match: 1. GSD, 2. bloodhound/pit bull 3. Lab/GSD 4. Bluetick coonhound
She looks nearly identical to her sister and all of their breeds are within 2% of each other. They look like someone stretched a GSD skin over a coonhound body. I saw their mother, who looked mostly like a lab/pit mix to me, but obviously there were at least 5 or 6 breeds in the mix.

She’s clearly part pony with that awesome mane!
Whatever she is, she’s adorable! Enjoy!
Made an account just to say i think that is one of my pups brothers/sisters! The ages line up and he is from TJ and they are practically identical! When i adopted him he had 4 or 5 other siblings!
Photos please! Mika hasn’t had any close relatives pop up yet on Embark. It would be a blast to find some though.
This is ( to me) concrete proof that the DNA tests are for entertainment purposes only
don’t know the breed, but we maybe have a distant relative in Hungary
