If the issue is the price - a show pass fee is $45. If one now must pay a membership fee to attend more than one show to sign an entry form for $80 - you are saving money.
My issue is that I do not wish to support USEF. I do not feel they give a flying F for us “regular” members. There is a serious issue of fraudulent sales, abuse/neglect and flaunting of rules that I have been involved in for the past several years that USEF continues to bury their heads in the sand over. I do not want my name on any membership list. I don’t have an issue with needing to pay more $$ in order to support my local venue owner but this squashes even that.
How exactly would they do that, except by recognizing a safe sport ban? Which non-members has USEF suspended or banned in the past? It’s rather difficult to suspend a person from an organization that they don’t belong to.
There is no way for USEF to fine a non-member for a medication overage or banned substance found in the horse, and that’s what USEF usually does. When they really want to get tough they may include a two month suspension.
This was covered during the horse killings suspensions. They went to court for their right to ban nonmembers because it is a private organization. Now actually keeping a random parent off the showgrounds versus a recognizable trainer is a different thing in practice. But they have the right to do it.
That was quite awhile ago… I think that the criminal records of those folks would make them Safe Sport ineligible today.
I can understand why USEF would rather have the people signing their documents be members. As an organization it must be easier to keep members to the rules rather than chase down non-members for D&M or other rule infractions.
I still don’t understand how anyone can be “suspended” from an organization of which they are not a member.
I think the Oaks is $450 and they charge more for tack stalls. The logic for the tack stalls is that stalls occupied by horses generate entry fee money. I can’t verify the stall fees as they’ve taken the prize lists off the website.
Thermal stalls start at $450 but they’re the 12x12 clear span ones. Thermal has a $100 office fee in addition to the standard USEF/USHJA/CDFA fees, but no separate media, etc., fee.
The screen shot is for NEE Temecula in case that’s not apparent by elimination. It probably comes down to about the same overall money for all of them; just apportioned differently.
I don’t have names off of my head, sorry. But in the past non-members have been banned from competition grounds for things such as horse abuse.
I am not well versed enough in minors having horses show on drugged horses to know how they used to implement the fine. But I’m not sure how it would be any easier if the adult is a member. I mean, so mom gets a fine. Why pay it? Ok, now dad signs as trainer next year. Or grandma. Or older brother.
I was under the impression the ban was the norm, pretty much every one I know of who has had a horse test for something has been hit with a suspension.
Interesting. I do remember growing up the cost of rated shows were always so high on the west coast.
I wonder if they are cheaper here because of increased competition between venues.
I just looked, and a stall was actually $295 for the week at that show.
I just took safe sport for my sport participation and it took 2 hours
I spent more time at work doing chemical safety Phishing safety and radiation safety, every year. Like someone said, people waste a lot of time doing things that dont matter. Being Safe Sport aware is not trivial nor burdensome. The section on bullying, alone, should be required reading for every parent of a teen
In drug cases, it is almost always the trainer that gets punished. And the horses associated with that person. So if the mother was banned, the horse would still be banned if the father started signing the entry form.
Is this true? So if Trainer A gets suspended because Horse A tests positive, Horse A’s owner can’t show Horse A with Trainer B during Trainer A’s suspension? I could have sworn someone said yesterday on this thread that banning horses would require a rule change.
I was looking at the latest controlled medication overages and not one person whose horse tested positive was suspended (not even for their second positive test.) However, USEF sure has increased the amount of the fines from what they used to be.
No, I believe that was said in response to the difficulties that USEF would have with a non-member signing for what turned out to be a drugged horse. Someone suggested just banning the horse. Just banning the horse would require a rule change.
A quick read of the applicable parts of the rule book will help clear it up.
GR7 and GR4.
Most people don’t go to quite such lengths to cheat, thankfully.
I am surprised at the complaints regarding the requirement that whomever signs as trainer on a minor’s paperwork, at a USEF show, be a USEF member. Seems like a no brainer to me.
