Nice hair bun holder

I’m in the market for a new “hair bun holder” and all I can find is the same one I have had for years and everyone else seems to have. It is the one with the two clips on opposite sides and rhinestones glued to the netting.

Does anyone have anything different? And where did you get it?

Thanks!

I can’t help with the “net” chignon/bun cover, but if you want the perfect bun, and I do mean perfect: get a bun form at Sally Beauty supply. It looks like a kitchen sponge scrubby, but as a donut. You put it around your pony tail, and you have a form to make the perfect bun. I remembered having this when I showed saddle seat and went in search of one for my daugher’s dance recital this weekend. Even though she barely had enough hair to cover it, by the time you put the hair net on and backed up 12 inches, you could not tell that it was anything but beautiful. So dazzle them with perfection and put a pretty barrette across it.

Sho clothes has some really beautiful hair/bun holders and she makes some one of a kinds. www.shoclothes.com

I’m so out of it…I thought the rhinestones were the new thing. I just bought one, in fact! Everyone at the dressage shows (recognized) seems to ride in one.

My OLD show bow/SNOOD actually fell off at the last show, leaving just the hairnet and a sticky metal hairclip. It’s retired.

Some NICE stuff on that site!!! I’d love to splurge there, but I just bought a NICE saddle, so no additional splurging right now

Ooooh, please don’t wear those snoody things! How to pick a rank amateur a mile away. They are awful, and don’t make you look at all like an athlete.

Just make a small bun and secure well. Cover with one or two fine hairnets (not those ghastly fish-wife sleeping nets) and leave off the bling and the bows. Much more professional-looking. And much cheaper.

I would have to whole heartedly disagree with the above statement, at least in the US, at the big licensed shows EVERYONE wears them, especially the upper level riders (PSG and above)

Then there’s always those lace baggy thingies with the clip and bow. I mean - how are those supposed to work or even look nice? There are some gawdy ones on ebay that I think are for western shows, or you could try these more conservative and classy bun covers:

probably not the colored ones: http://cgi.ebay.com/Ballet-Dance-Skating-Bun-Cover-Hair-Accessory_W0QQitemZ380118032187QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item5880ccdf3b&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A50

I think you’re talking about a snood! If the clip part is tasteful, they can look very nice. I see them at many shows on many levels of rider.

Sorry - just because the top US riders at PSG and above wear them, they are still putrid. “Just say no!”.

good god! those shoclothes showbow/bun things are gaudy. they look like something scarlett o’hara would wear… puddin: my grandmother used to use one of those bun things you describe. i seem to recall that the resulting bun was at least four inches across and pretty substantive. can you make the bun low enough to not interfere with a helmet or top hat??

Okay - like wearing a freaking wool jacket and skintight pants make you look like an athlete?

I happen to have too much hair for a hair bun holder, so am resigned to a circle comb to hold back the hair from my face, with a “snoody thing” to scoop up everything else. I’ve been told it looks nice. I like it. And I am anything but a rank amateur.

Ahhh - that explains it. Another refugee from hunter land. Lost, princess? :stuck_out_tongue:

ESG-

I have very thick hair and its fairly long. If you want to use one of the rhinestone bun holders. What I do is get all my hair in a ponytail. And then pull it half way through on te last one so you have half your hair folded under. And then I hair spray it and then put a hair net over and bobby pin that and then I put the rhinestone bun holder over. And then hair spray everything.

Nup, not a hunter refugee. We don’t have them here. The closest thing is a “hackie” or a “showie”. All about looks, fat shiny horses worked down for hours etc. But plenty of bling and coloured ribbon, bows and diamantes.

Like this (scroll to the bottom of the page - the top stuff is all wonderful, the bottom is very showie…)

I just happen to hate snoods, diamante bun holders, baggy hair nets and fancy bows with a passion bordering on psychotic. Go figure. I am also parent to a teenage daughter who is judgmental of people who don’t wear belts with their breeches…God knows where she gets THAT from!

Ahhh - I see. More like the breed show stuff you see here.

But I gotta tell you, the strap goods on the site you linked looked EXCELLENT quality. The blingy rolled bridle was a bit over the top, even for me, but the rest looked superb. I’m jealous.
