I did tow with a smaller truck for a few years (Ranger v6) it was rated for the 7000lbs, we upgraded the springs, tires etc, top of the line trailer brakes. It did fine on the pulling, braking not so much - got stuck in stop and go traffic and actually burnt out my brake pads (and I was only pulling about 5500lbs)

This is kind of my fear with the smaller truck.
Hubby suggested I might keep my little economy car (since I really do love it for errands, parallel parking, etc. and it’s got lots of life left with only 80k miles on it). He says go for a used Duramax/Cummins as a weekender, which is a great idea. I love my DH!!! It’s honestly a matter of finding one used that hasn’t been mudded to death or otherwise driven into the ground.
…And that “new truck smell” can be very seductive, even knowing that it’s only a matter of time until it gets that “old barn smell”
