Novice needs advices on naughty horse (We have a baby!)

Wow, and you did it all yourself, without Peter there??? Shella looks like a lovely calm horse with the nice, soft eye. Puika looks like he is in shock! His life has changed so much for the better since you and Peter took him. I am sure he can’t believe what is happening. He has gone from a very sad life to the perfect life. I think they will be just fine together, she is certainly the perfect horse for you to learn to ride. Congratulations! I will suggest that you make sure Puika is securely locked in his stall and cannot escape and try to visit Shella like he did with the cow.

In the first inside picture you can see that hallway between them both is properly secured with chains so they can not visit each other. At the beginning I put also Shella on chain, and when Puika went in, he got the chain stright around his neck, before I took bridle off. In case, if they would like to rear. But no, they were very nice and sweet, so neck chains off, dividing chains still on - they will be there for the whole night, ugly, but gives that piece of peace that I need for tonight.
And yes, I did it all by myself, just my mum assisting me - you can feel that I very proud of it.

I was a bit shocked when Shella instead of drinking went stright into the pond for splash, but I am fast learner.

I just love Shella - she is absolutely perfect and safe horse for me. She already follows me around pastures and gardens very carefully so when my mum was weeding strawberries, Shella was just happy gazing next to her. She will have a happy life here.

Great Job Anna!!

Can’t you just hear Puika? …it’s…it’s…it’s a GIRL!!

Reds-n-Greys, my only concern now is that you can not only hear him singing …it’s…it’s…it’s a GIRL!! but also … hmmm… SEE his heart singing! OK, it is an impressive view, I only hope that I can trust that vet certificate that he is proper gelding  I have about 2 weeks to get them used to each other as then her next heat circle will start

Wooo Hoooooo! Welcome home Shella!!

She’s looks lovely :yes::slight_smile:

I’m not normally so mushy, but that just brought tears to my eyes!
By the way, can I borrow your mom? Love her sense of humor and am glad no “dragging out by the feet” was necessary!

I have a feeling neither Puika or Anna are going to get much sleep tonight!! Puika will not be able to take his eyes off his new friend and Anna will, I am sure, be out to the stable more than once tonight to check on them. Shella, on the other hand, will probably sleep soundly.

Oh what wonderful pictures! I just love that you’re sharing this with us. Shella seems like a perfect match for you, just like Puika is for Peter. Lovely.

Is this not, seriously, one of the nicest threads ever??

Hooray for you and your beasties, AnnaCrew!!!

Lovely photos, I can’t wait for the next instalment of your heartwarming story, and look forwards to seeing pictures of you and Peter riding together.

Quick morning update.

Puika is in love. He spent all night licking her. (No hay was touched. He will loose a lot of weight now, I’m sure). Then he used his teeth like a bit nipping her and she was a bit kicking… Sounds bad, but it was such a flirting! Then - he refused to leave his box at morning! He just wanted carry on standing with her. But slowly with promises, he left and was such a good boy on his way to pastures.

We are still keeping them bot on seperate pastures. Until we shall feel that it is safe to let them run together. But it will be soon, I’m sure about it.

Absolutely! Mr. allpurpose always asks me how Puika is doing, and loved the update that Shella arrived. In fact, Mr. allpurpose asks more about Puika then he does about my Tommy…hmm…

Congratulations, Anna, on a beautiful baby girl! Woo Hoo!

I just want to thank you, Anna, for these wonderful posts, and especially the photos. I now read the posts out loud to mr swrerider, and show him the photos. I think someone should collect these posts into a book!!!Your narrative style really manages, I think, to express and explain aspects of the human horse bond, which seems almost universal . I mean the caring, the concerns, the anxieties, and the joys of what ever it is that draws us to our horses.
I may have missed them somewhere, but I would love more photos of your farm and it’s structures- the barns.
THANK YOU!

OMG Anna! Those pics are wonderful! And your Mum looks like she is enjoying herself too! and–Shella already splashing in the pond!
Puika has the glazed expression of instant adoration and love in his eyes! He probably is afraid he will wake up! lol I love this!!! Thanks so much for posting all of your photos and adventures with them, I’m anxiously awaiting the next ‘chapter’! Have fun!!!

[Ps… both of my geldings used to love showing their–err…‘love’ for their favorite gals… no harm ever came of it, but… I did have to buy my friends some horse shampoo… :o ]

 Congratulations, Anna! I knew it would be love at first sight. And bravo for doing this (the introduction) on your own, with the help of your lovely mother of course. I can tell she’s discovered her inner-horsewoman, as well. Looking forward to all of the Puika & Shella stories to come!

Shella is lovely!

So far no pictures of them together… It takes much more time to get Puika out of stall at morning as he does not want to leave his lovebird. But he is beheiving already better, that’s for sure.

Shella had feeling better then yesterday so she got a bit of work this morning. We have 2 teens working here (boy is 14, and girl 16), helping me with gardening. Both of them are very good, so they got a chance, and Shella was very, very good.

Each one had 3 short laps on lead only and only slowly walking, but this thing made their day, Shella included. And yes, it was the first time on horse for both of them.

I know, you might tell me about safety helmets and all that but it was just very slowly walking on lead, and I can trust Shella 100%, you can feel it when walking with her - she is like a mother who carry a baby - so gentle and careful.

So here are pictures (sorry for my look, but it was just between some gardening jobs)

So great that Puika has Shella now!

And those kids were just beaming with delight at getting to sit on Shella! I just love this thread!!

What a wonderful thread. Anna, you must promise that you will keep posting updates of your life with these horses. What joy you bring to this BB.

…says the hard hearted old shrew, with happy tears in her eyes
