So what do you specifically not like? Working young horses has been refered to, that would very valid. I have not seen that, but I am sure it happened. In what frame of reference? In hand, in walk, in trot?

Imho one’s followers should not always play into the mix, since one cannot control the actions/misunderstandings of others. I really only know one very successful student of his (no, not referring to BD). Lifetimes of apprenticeship like his son still does not make them the same person.

Is there nothing you do like? ie collectability/ease.

I found horses he trained very easy/uncomplicated to ride, and sound to an old age. Some very ‘hard audiences’ enjoyed his work as well.

For me, all horsemen learn from one another IF the goal is the same. In the past (for dressage riders) it has been a goal of haute ecole with trust/balance/collection (which would make it a different goal than today’s competition world).

I didn’t label you, and I’m not picking on you. Having only seen a handful of pictures of Oliveira, I really don’t have an opinion of him one way or the other. I was just wondering why someone who has such strongly held views wouldn’t take advantage of this opportunity to expound fully on them.

You might even persuade some who do believe he’s the “god of dressage” that he was, after all, a human with his own set of flaws as a trainer. But if you’d rather just keep sputtering, then carry on.

I don’t think anyone is trying to convert you and make you believe that NO is the “God of Dressage”. IMO no one is – even Nuno.

I agree with those that have posted that we have lots to learn from everyone, good and bad.

The hard part, for someone as uneducated as myself, is to find the gold in the ore. For that I watch the “masters”, listen in on my trainer, ask questions on various lists. Watch and learn.

Slowly and surely I’m gaining an “eye” – meaning being able to actually see and understand what others are talking about.

But it’s a never-ending process, IMO.

Course the hardest part is taking everything learned and actually applying it. Methodology is one thing, practical application is even harder.

Yes I told work that ‘I am not working tomorrow, taking my boy and a kiwi to the beach’ And I have written on the board that if my Year 10’s give the relief teacher a hard time. they will have lunch time detention every day next week.
