About a month ago I transitioned my horse off of Tribute Kalm Ultra because he was getting a little too chunky. He’s now getting 1 lb of Tribute Essential K, and a 1/2 lb of Empower Boost (AM and PM). Nothing else in his diet or routine has changed - same hay, supplements, turnout, work schedule. His body condition is close to ideal now, but I’ve noticed that he seems hotter than normal and very spooky. This is unusual for him. He’s typically a rock solid, steady-eddy, stick and spur push ride. I’m going to back him down to 1/2 lb of Boost per day and see if that helps. Has anyone else had Empower Boost make a horse nutty?
It is also the time of year that some horses can be a little different than they are the other times of the year.
I have one on Empower Boost and it has never caused her personality to be any different.
That does not mean it is not what is causing your horse an issue. Individual critters can react differently to the same thing.
I had a hot spooky one that Empower [before it was called Boost] did not make moreso.
Could it be new, spring grass? Change in hay? Just that he is feeling better having gained weight and having more energy?
Could it be somethin related to why he needed the extra calories, iow an ulcer situation or other health challenge?
I’ve used Empower Boost in the past for the fat content. It did not make my horse spooky but she was using the excess energy to put on weight. Maybe the energy expended by your horse (work/turnout) is not meeting/surpassing the energy taken in via diet/Boost? That would make the most sense to me. But as @trubandloki stated, it’s also a frisky time of year. I’d cut down on the Boost and see how he does. As with any nutritional change, you’ll have to give it adequate time to see a difference.
