Olympic Team Show Jumping Concludes Wednesday, August 17

I am (possibly) a horrible person for saying this, but I’m wondering if perhaps there are some issues with the footing and/or the stabling that are contributing. Given the issues with the facilities for other sports in Rio, it wouldn’t be a total shocker.
i was thinking the heat and stress both of the competition and the travel could be a pretty good recipe for colic. such a shame about Tiny’s injury, i hope he is going to be ok!
We all know that, and it is a shame, but you know and I know, and he has that in his mind and heart. He is the Only. One. who did it.
It didn’t do him much good though, at least in the team results, whereas Kent jumped clear with one 1 time fault and got a silver medal out of it. But there is still the individual event which should be a great competition.

And wasn’t Fine Lady 5 originally purchased to be the speed horse who collects all the points at 1.45 while the boys did all the heavy lifting? Talk about punching above your weight. Ride like a girl, indeed!

Yeah definitely not Zeremonie, I’m thinking they had to have borrowed one from another country and swapped tack. It’s not like the show jumpers don’t all know each other anyway, so presumably someone wouldn’t mind loaning you one who is good for the awards!

I just watched this on nbc. Can someone tell me why Beezie wasn’t competing? I kept waiting for the commentators to say, but they never did. Also a number of other countries were only competing with 3 riders but the commentators never said why. NBC really needs different commentators IMO.

Yeah that makes more sense that it’s another nation’s horse. The eventers are definitely already home as Boyd and Philip were already showing again here this past weekend.

I was just surprised to see a fleet of bays for the US! Canada would make sense, that’s a good thought.

Can I just say that this was about the greatest team event I have ever seen? Nation’s Cups, WEG and Olympics combined. Damn, just a brilliant course and the depth/talent of so many nations is amazing.

firebug - tendon injury, minor - COTH reported on it, check out the sidebar on the right side of your screen

SWI is the only team with all 4 riders qualified for indiv final.
Sad for the one that isn’t chosen to ride especially since all 4 have 9 faults.
Nope, Germany has all four riders qualified too, but Ludger Beerbaum won’t be riding. Technically, there is a fifth German rider qualified, Rene Tebbel, who rides for the Ukraine.

Thanks! I didn’t see the article; I should have looked better.

Totally agree DMK – so many top-class horses and so much amazing riding, and a nail-biter to the end!! The courses really were a perfect test. I can’t wait for Friday’s individual finals, so that I can once again hold my breath for a couple of hours!!!

Give the riders a time allowed of 90 seconds and the outcome would not have been exciting. Almost every horse was able to jump the course.
A
s one wise old sage said, “The time allowed is the last fence the course designer gets to put into the course”. And he did a magnificent job of making “the last fence” the true test of separating the good from the great rounds.

Yup she was bought to be a speed horse, and she is an amazing speed horse too! She’s really jumping amazing, you can tell she completely trusts Eric

There is a great picture of Penelope Leprevost swigging from a bottle of champagne, while standing in the Olympic rings, on ridehesten’s website (ridehesten.com). This link may work: http://ridehesten.com/nyheder/sjov-med-ringene/42968

Love this!!! Thanks for posting this!

ETA: Check out the pony story at the bottom of that web page! Funny video in there.

Roger-Yves Bost cracks me up. Here’s a great story from him on sewing up the gold that appeared in www.horses.nl:

“It is bizarre that we with the team are Olympic champions. I didn’t even know that my ride meant the gold. I didn’t go counting how we stood, but just did my thing. I was planning to ask if we had won a medal upon leaving the ring, but when I came out and saw them all crying, the penny dropped. It was unbelievable! It is a dream to be Olympic champion and I still can hardly realize it.”

Was Bosty the one who goes to the Olympics every 16 years? One of the French riders did the games in 1984, 2000, and 2016. That’s a long time to be at the top of the sport!!

If that’s not a great advertisement for wine and chocolate, I don’t know what is. He was getting teased on the Twitter for looking sadly at his medal wishing there was chocolate inside.

That’s pretty funny! I can sympathize.

It turns out it was Rozier who does the Olympics every 16 years. Rozier’s dad also was on the French team that won the gold at Montreal in 1976, so his family’s winning tradition at the Olympics goes back 40 years!
