Howdy, neighbor! I’m starting to really like Another Turn. I was concerned in the beginning because the condition of the consignment clothes frequently wasn’t very good. Looks like they’re getting more selective as time goes on, though. I understand why. You do what you have to do in the beginning to get established. I love that they carry Noble breeches new. Those are my favorites and their selection is broad. And I got a nice pony quarter sheet there.
@Wanderosa I’ve spoken to the owner numerous times, and since the beginning they definitely have upped their game with new inventory, as well as consigned inventory. They have excellent sales, a “frequent shopper” card, and they can order your supplements now at good deals, with no shipping fees. I highly prefer them over the other local consignment shop, and over driving the hour plus to DOVER.
Also, she told me that they care a line of breeches that are made by the same company who makes Smartpak Pipers, but at a cheaper price point. I havent checked them out, but I might if they have white breeches for shows.
Another big ole vote for Riding Warehouse- there’s almost always a coupon code to be had somewhere for them too. Big Dee’s or Valley Vet for supplements. And I’ll admit as a previous Dover hater, they’ve kinda turned it around in the last year or so.
Definitely not Equestrian Collections, had a horrible experience with them. Ordered something on Friday, they didn’t ship until end of day the following Wednesday. Their shipping is extremely slow (7 days). Then two days after the order has shipped they realized that their inventory was wrong and they were out of stock of one of the two items I ordered… even though the shipment email said both items had shipped. Over two weeks to get half of an order. Never again.
Conversely, I ordered something at Adams on Saturday. It was shipped Monday, and will arrive Wednesday. Ironically it will be here at the same time as the Equestrian Collections order even though it was ordered a week and a half later. Going to be using Adams for items going forwards.
Adams is fine if they have what you’re after, but they don’t even drop ship - they will order an item in to the store, then ship it to you. I’ve had things from them take two weeks.
I have used Horsze (or however its spelled), I have bought tons from Chicks Saddlery always been happy with their service. I also have done State Line and Dover but I prefer the previous two…usually ship faster and they have never gotten one of my orders wrong.
I use quite a fe. Before doing smartpaks I always got supplements from valley vet. The other is just easier for trainer but have always gotten great service from them. And quick. Even ordered my 24’ aisle way mats from them and they were great.
For my big yearly grooming order and for barn south Texas tack is amazing. Fast service, great prices (like $4 cheaper per can of fly spray) and free shipping when above certain amounts. My driving supplies either come from big dees or from Walsh. Other supplies from Schneider or smart pak
no local tack shop to me, closest is 1hr from me. But there is a tack shop from ky that has come to shows that I frequent for over 20 years with his mobile shop. He is amazing. Same owner for 20 plus years, great selection that is high quality. I have ordered online before and called and asked about bridle sizes (mine are between cob and regular) and they measured every piece of the bridle for each sizes so they could make the choice. When buying clothes they have sent options before to try on st home and have me ship back when I know what I want and don’t want. They have called to double check that I ordered the right bit when they thought it didn’t fit with what I usually used. So overall amazing service from John and hitching post in Kentucky
Luckily I have so much stuff that I rarely need anything anymore other than incidentals. That said, for minis and mini Donks, MyHooves&Paws is terrific. I order donkey-eared Cashel fly masks from them annually. One time I realized as I hit the order button that I had screwed up, emailed them on a Sunday night, and everything was fixed by the time I woke up Monday morning.
Schneider’s is now my go-to for blankets. To me, you can either go absolutely whole-hog with Rambo (totally worth the money) or you can get a stupendous deal with Schneider blankets. I don’t mess with the imposters (CoughWeatherBeetaCough).
I have enough quality show tack, but for schooling goods, I’m lucky to go past Bartville Harness twice a year. Stuff wears like iron and cleans up great. And they will custom make you anything you want!
I ordered from Mary’s Tack and Feed for the first time recently. I wanted a specific pair of wraps and a specific bit and they were the only place I could find that had both plus gag cheeks that I liked.
I had a missed call on my phone the next day saying that the gag cheeks were out of stock (I think they had just sold out, only to realize they were no longer being made) but they had slightly different options at varying price ranges. She said she would ship my other two items if she didn’t hear from me by something like 4PM. I called back and was pleasantly surprised to realize I was calling a real tack store and the first girl that picked up the phone was actually going to find the woman I needed to talk too. She explained the in-stock options, I chose a new one, she adjusted the difference on the credit card and shipped it out that day. Could not have been easier.
Now I always check their website when I need something. I find their selection better than Dover and Smartpak.
Thanks, @OnDeck . I like supporting non-chain brick and mortar tack stores even though I don’t have one close to me that suits all of my needs – hearing about your experience with Mary’s is helpful!
Mary’s Tack & Feed employee here - thank you for the shout out, OnDeck! Mary’s is indeed a mom & pop tack store, not a big corporation. If you need personal assistance, the sales associates are amazing. So much riding experience and knowledge to draw from. They aren’t just looking up info about a bridle to answer questions, they are holding the bridle in hand and describing it for you. It’s like shopping by proxy.
We love going the extra mile; someone posted here about wanting Schockemohle horse boots in a discontinued color and we were able to track down the last pair when nobody else could
