Opinion: Bling Belts in the Hunter Ring?
…the fact that the shadbellies do not fit correctly or are being worn with low, low rise britches. If you see the shirt below the vest, your pants are too low, or your coat is too short, or both.
PREACH!!! PREACH, SISTER, PREACH!!! I’m not that old, only in my 30s, and I’m lost for words when I see these ladies turned out so… missing the mark/dare I say poorly? And sometimes sitting on 6-figures worth of horse flesh!! I have a long torso. I had to have mine made for me and, honestly, it did NOT cost anymore than paying off the rack. I love low-rise breeches, but I will not put them on with a shad, but then again, I actually wear a canary under mine, too.

And tying to get back in to the topic, in the jumper ring, it’s fine for your bling-bling belt to be seen, unless it’s a classic. If you’re really blingin’ and pullin’ rails, then looking silly is on you.

In the hunter ring, it better not be seen. The name of the game is not to draw attention away from your horse and conservative. You’re creating the total picture, but you’re NOT the focus. Would you put a blinging brow band on? God, I hope not , so I’m kind of confused on why anyone would think it would be okay. With all due respect, Trixie, I don’t understand why you’re put off by the fact a hunter judge asked for it to be removed. I don’t care if it’s a kid or not. Yes, there’s always a “trend”, but rust breeches, the velvet collars from back in the day, jackets that are similar to cub hunting coats worn in non-classic classes, as they stick closer to hunt field tradition, but if you’re sparkling… come on now. That’s not the name of the hunter game, and that’s not exactly breaking news.

Mostly because mroades is constantly going on about how judges don’t pay attention to what the rider is wearing and they’re focused on the horse. A judge staring at a child’s waist to the extent that they’re telling them to change their clothes because they’re distracting is, in my book, not where his eyes should be, particularly if the focus is the horse.

Particularly since it actually isn’t against the rules. It’s “not done” and he’s welcome to mark the kid down for inappropriate attire, but I’d personally find the situation rather bizarre.

Well, to be fair, mroades wasn’t the judge who asked the kid not to wear the belt, so. And I don’t understand how it means the judge wasn’t looking at the horse at all. If the belt was visible the judge could have seen it the second she trotted into the ring and made a note to say something after the she was done. It doesn’t mean he was just staring at her waist the entire round.

It does mean that they were upset enough about it, though, to call the back gate. It takes quite a bit of attention to keep focusing on it.

FWIW: I’m like DMK. I’ll wear what I want, in fashion or not. Well, at least as long as it’s not too far out…no madras for me, thank you very much. I find the whole riding fashion thing to be a bit ridiculous and more than a little lemming-like.
