Opinions on a yearling prospect? (EDITED - Now New 4 yr old)

I’m not a dressage expert but he looks high hocked and straight behind. It shows in his trot, too. Crap shoot on a weanling, though.

I hope you are asking that rhetorically, in the context of: suggesting additional info that shoppers should be factoring into the equation.

He is really cute and looks talented as well as sweet and trainable. I say go for it.

I’m just here to enable.

Thanks so much to everyone for your insights 😊 - very helpful!

As a complete Covid curveball, a local opportunity for a 4 year old came up and after speaking to my trainer and trying this dude today I ended up putting an offer (pending vet) 😬

And what breed is this new one? I have my guesses but…

Oh wow… love his coat.

Lusitano - he’s quite different than what I’m used to (first Iberian horse for me), but I couldn’t get over how calm yet sensitive to the aids he is.

He’s striking. Might be an optical illusion from his tail but I would have the vet look real close at those hind legs.

YES! Once you go Iberian you never go back.”‹”‹”‹”‹”‹”‹

I’ve been riding other horses recently while my PRE was off work/coming back into work and I appreciate his sensitivity more than ever before.

His legs look less weird in person/other pics but yes full PPE for sure.

Congrats! Jingles that he passes the PPE. How lucky are you? Stunning!

Ditto cantering carrot on the Iberians. I’ve been riding a Lusitanoe for 5 years, and just bought a second one. Never crossed my mind to try anything else. They are a different ride but suits me well. Keep us posted!!

Super cute and his personality looks nice (not super spooky or reactive, confident and relaxed looking). I agree on the hind end though - even if it’s mechanically sound there’s something I don’t like about it and how he moves back there. My only experience in judging youngsters though is the billions of videos my coworker showed me when she was shopping, so totally not even close to an expert

Very nice! I hope the PPE goes well.

Many of us are dedicated Iberian fans/converts for a reason! 😉

So when is the PPE? (nice to use that term not related to covid!) He is beautiful. I currently have a baroque-style palomino Morgan! How tall is he?

Oh, wow. Fingers crossed for a perfect PPE; he is certainly eye-catching!

Well we were able to buy some x-rays recently taken by someone who backed out of the sale due to Covid. I’m speaking to the vet about the x-rays on Friday, then we’ll decide from there what additional shots we should take (at least neck, which we don’t have) and when we can schedule the rest of the exam (early next week I hope). I’m at the mercy of the vet’s availability, who’s pretty busy right now. Luckily the seller’s agent is being very patient and nice to deal with.

He’s 15.3 and since he’s four, I’m hoping maybe he grows another inch. He feels a tiny bit small for me (I’m 5’8" and usually like them over 16) but he’s just such an interesting prospect I couldn’t resist. He’s priced to sell because the farm he’s at is over capacity and really need to free up stalls. His location + Covid + somewhat urgent sale makes for a way more affordable horse than I think he would otherwise be. He’s obviously green in a lot of ways but so balanced and has already been taught clean and easy changes!

If vetting goes well I also need to have him gelded before I can bring him to the place I’m at (rule for boarders and also I probably don’t want to deal with owning a stallion!). It’s kinda a shame because he’s so pretty and is a pretty nice mover - his coat dazzles like gold in the sunlight when you see him in person, it’s crazy! He’s also already been bred and is still such a saint. It’s all very mindblowing for someone used to Dutch and Hanoverian horses haha.
