Opossums are not the tick eaters we thought they were

In my part of the world the thing that kills my chickens is typically the fox. They do it during the day, not when the chickens are roosted at night.

I revise my statement… Chickens for the win!!!

lol

Not only that, the chickens pick CLEAN my sheep! Here are a couple of our hens picking beggers lice of a ewe. Chickens are so useful!

as for fox, we had one, once. It was a horrible nightmare. We have coyotes, (and they say where there are coyotes there are no foxes) and these coyotes are good…they stay off of the main farm compound. They get Close! really close, but only once have i ever seen one by the house and that’s when i had three intact PWD bitches. lol. Anyhow, about the fox, a friend’s son was on leave from Marines bootcamp and was tasked to kill something every day. I had him come over and sit in the barn and eventually he shot that fox for me. Sad, but necessary. That dang thing took about 6 chickens. RIGHT OUT FROM IN FRONT OF ME! Bold little SOB…

anyhow, here’s the nit-pickin chickens

Thats why I don’t have chickens. I don’t want coyote, fox, possum, raccoon bait. I try to exist with the wildlife out here as long as they don’t eat my garden. I enjoy my grey fox and red fox sightings and there is nothing here they can harm. I did have my old neighbors free range chickens try to make a home here. You are Not roosting on my front porch or in my hay and pooping all over everything and digging in my flower beds. The coyotes picked them off one by one, at least the ones that didn’t get hit by cars. That was enough chickens for me!
